To the family and friends of Detective Mario Moreno and his fellow officers in the San Antonio Police Department:
On behalf of our entire family, we wish to pay honor to Mario's memory on the first anniversary of the day Mario so tragically lost his life. His heroism, valor and bravery will be forever remembered.
May you be continue to be comforted by the support and caring of your law enforcement family, and other police survivors. We grieve for you and with you. Our family lost our beloved Larry Lasater when he was fatally shot in April of 2005 during a foot pursuit of two bank robbers, so we know the anquish you are still experiencing.
Please know that the brotherhood and sisterhood of law enforcement and police survivors will always be by your side on each step of the journey.
This reflection is sent with the utmost respect for the years of service Detective Moreno gave to his community and the citizens of Texas, and the supreme sacrifice he and his family made on September 21, 2007.

I hope your Christmas was heavenly. I'm sorry it couldn't be spent with your wife and kids who love you so dearly. Have a good New Year's and please watch over all us officers that have to work that day. Miss you.... Police Officer San Antonio PD 2007-12-30
I had to come to ODMP here 4 days before Christmas to tell your family that I still think of them and their loss. There are too many rookie badges in Heaven this year. Sharing a badge with my dad and brother, I am especially pained for your family. Blessings to your family in this "first" holiday season of loss. I know that time does not come quick enough to even begin to ease the heartache of loss and will never, thankfully, erase the pain completely. But I pray that merciful God will hold them, and all families who have lost their officer, with peace and gentleness as the season tends to magnify the pain. I also pray that the force in Heaven watch over those connected with the thin blue line and when the time comes, you greet them with open arms. I know that you are missed by many. Thank you for helping give me the strength and courage to wear this earthly badge with honor. Miller CPPD 2007-12-21
To the Moreno family, our thoughts and prayers are with you. May God and time help you to heal so that the good memories of your fallen officer is what stays in your hearts. From the family of NM Liquor Inspector Edward L. Moreno, killed in the line of duty. Duaghter of NM Inspector Edward Moreno

Just thinking of you today and wondering how your wife, kids and family are doing during the holidays. I know you are watching over them all. I didn't realize the day of your funeral that I would be driving home near the church where your body rested. It was an amazing sight to see all the patrol units from all over texas lined up waiting to pay their respects. I cried all the way home thinking of your wife and family and how strong she had to be for your children that day. Being a dispatcher and my spouse also a police officer makes me extra vigilant to do everthing I can to protect my guys. I just wanted you to know that I think of you and your family often and will never forget the sacrifice you made. Michelle AHPD-Dispatch 2007-11-13
I come to the ODMP often to remember my late fiancé Dennis. Everytime I come here it breaks my heart to know that yet another officer has fallen and that yet another family has to live their lives without the man they loved. My heart goes out to everyone who knew and loved Detective Moreno, especially to his wife. Know that you are not alone in the "journey" that you walk. Should you ever need anything please don't hesitate to contact me. The Davis Co. Sheriff's Office in Iowa will always know how to reach me. You will be in my thoughts.
From reading the reflections left for Mario, he sounds like he was a great man with a beautiful spirit. Those of you who knew him in life were so blessed to have been able to share in it. I hope that you will all continue to find a way to celebrate and remember Mario's life and the MAN that he was. Remember that Mario's life was about so much more than the way he died. Mario will continue to live on as long as we continue to remember him.
Detective Moreno, thank you for helping to make this world a little safer for us all. YOU will not be forgotten. Please continue to watch over all of us as only you can. If you happen to bump into my late fiancé Dennis up there give him a big hug for me and the kids. It's been almost five years but we still miss him terribly.
Wishing you brighter and better days,
Jocelyne :)

My Brother"
Although I never met him, I knew him. He was idealistic and believed he could make a difference. He was immensely proud of the uniform and the badge and what they represent. He felt privileged to be of service to his department, his community and to his country.
He was a cop.
Although I never met him, I knew him. He was friendly, courteous, and polite, yet firm. He laughed and joked, but was serious when necessary. He was competent, trained, and professional.
He was a cop.
Although I never met him, I knew him. He had a strong sense of right and wrong and became frustrated when true justice became sidetracked. He felt the sharp criticism that goes with the job, but he never wavered. He stood by and for his fellow officers.
He was a cop.
Although I never met him, I knew him. He longed for his family during the long hours. He worried about them during his shifts and the lonely weekends, holidays and midnights when they were apart. He felt guilty about the lost time, but knew his calling and prayed they would understand.
He was a cop.
Although I never met him, I knew him. He was a good son, a loving husband, and a devoted father. He was dedicated to the profession and cared about the people he served. He wanted to do the best job that he could and strived to be the best he could be. He was a good citizen and a good neighbor.
He was a cop.
Yes, I did know him. He was a cop, he was my Brother. Cpl. Flores The University of Texas Health Science Center @ San Antonio 2007-10-08

If tomorrow starts without me, and I'm not there to see.
If the sun should rise and find your eyes all filled with tears for me
I wish so much you wouldn't cry the way you did today. While thinking of the many things we didn't get to say.
I know how much you love me, As much as I love you, and each time that you think of me, I know you'll miss me too;
But when tomorrow starts without me, Please try to understand, that an angel came and called my name, And took me by the hand
And said my place was ready, in heaven far above, And that I'd have to leave behind all those I dearly love.
But as I turned to walk away, A tear fell from my eye, For all my life, I'd always thought, I didn't want to die.
I had so much to live for, So much left yet to do, it seemed almost impossible, that I was leaving you.
If I could relive yesterday, just even for a while, I'd say good-bye and kiss you and maybe see you smile.
But then I fully realized, that this could never be, for emptiness and memories, would take the place of me.
And when I thought of worldly things, I might miss come tomorrow, I thought of you, and when I did, my heart was filled with sorrow.
But when I walked through heaven's gates, I felt so much at home. When God looked down and smiled at me, From His great golden throne,
He said, "This is eternity, and all I've promised you." Today your life on earth is past, but here life starts anew.
I promise no tomorrow, but today will always last, and since each day is the same way, there's no longing for the past.
You have been so faithful, so trusting and so true. Though there were times you did some things, you knew you shouldn't do.
But you have been forgiven, and now at last you're free. So won't you come and take my hand, and share my life with me
So when tomorrow starts without me, don't think we're far apart, for every time you think of me, I'm right here, in your heart... PC Amanda Pandolfi (Sherman) York Regional Police, Ontario Canada 2007-10-06
"In the simple performance of duty, he pinned on a badge, checked his gear with a practiced eye, and kissed his loved ones good-bye. In the simple performance of duty, he reported for work, joked with his buddies at roll call, and made his last trip down the squad room hall. In the simple performance of duty, he answered the call to help the helpless, to find the lost, no matter the danger or how great the cost. In the simple performance of duty, he lay down his life, for those in peril he tried to save, our brave friend went to his grave. In the simple performance of duty, we honor his deed, as we carry him to rest in a flag-draped casket, long after the world has forgotten, we shall never forget. Never judge or regret, what he did, In the simple performance of duty."
