A year has gone by, but not a day goes by when you don't cross my mind. I know that you are looking down on all of us and know that you are always with us. I miss you more than ever. It is hard not having you here to go to when there is a problem or we just need someone to talk to. All the new officers here will never know what it was like to work with you. That is something that the rest of will have to tell them about. But, I wish that you could know that I would give anything to have you here again.

TK my friend. It has been almost a year now since we have lost you. I miss you. I am at CJI in Little Rock, AR now getting ready to teach the last session of the CSTP. You were here with me as a co-instructor for the past 9 sessions, it is strange to be here without you.
We have worked together for the ISP for over 20 years, we have been friends for over 30 years. You were here teaching with me two weeks before you were shot, and then you were gone. But you will never be forgotten!

TK, I miss your smile, your upbeat attitude and your love. There isn't a day go by that I don't think of you and wonder how our lives would have been different. I miss you my darling TK, each and every day. You will forever live in my heart and in my life with the positive attitude that you taught me. So many times I think about you and laugh about things that we did and things you would say. I'll never forget you my darlin, and even though it's almost been a year, my heart aches for you daily! I come to the ODMP often to remember my late fiancé Dennis. Everytime I come here it breaks my heart to know that yet another officer has fallen and that yet another family has to live their lives without the man they loved. My heart goes out to everyone who knew and loved Deputy Martin. Know that you are not alone in the "journey" that you walk. Should you ever need anything please don't hesitate to contact me. The Davis Co. Sheriff's Office in Iowa will always know how to reach me. You will be in my thoughts.
From reading the reflections left for Tommy, he sounds like he was a great man with a beautiful spirit. Those of you who knew him in life were so blessed to have been able to share in it. I hope that you will all continue to find a way to celebrate and remember Tommy's life and the MAN that he was. Remember that Tommy's life was about so much more than the way he died. Tommy will continue to live on as long as we continue to remember him.
Deputy Martin, thank you for helping to make this world a little safer for us all. YOU will not be forgotten. Please continue to watch over all of us as only you can. If you happen to bump into my late fiancé Dennis up there give him a big hug for me and the kids. It's been almost five years but we still miss him terribly.

Officers make it safe for people like my self to walk the streets. I'am an airman in the usnscc and am glad to do what I love. Even though I truly do not know Officer Tommy Martin, I'am greatly appreciated of his work. May the work that you have done live forever.

I was a homicide investigator in the 1990's with the city of Springield Illinois Police Department. We looked to T.K. Martin to train our crime scene tech's. His training helped us solve numerous homicides.

I knew Tommy as a mentor when I was doing my internship with Zone 10 of the Illinois State Police in Champaign, IL. Tommy was never too busy to explain to a young college student why he did things the way he did. He was always busy and conducted himself in a professional manner that a future cop could emulate. The policeman stood and faced God,

He hoped his shoes were shining,
just as brightly as his brass.
"Step forward now, policeman.
How shall I deal with you?

The policeman squared his shoulders and said,
"No lord, I guess I ain't,
because those of us who carry a badge
can't always be a saint."
I've had to work most Sundays,
and at times my talk was rough,
and sometimes I've been violent,
because the streets are awfully tough.
But I never took a penny,
that wasn't mine to keep
though I worked a lot of overtime
when the bills got just too steep.
And I never passed a cry for help,
though at time I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.
I know I don't deserve a place
among the people here.
They never wanted me around
except to calm their fear.
If you've a place for me here, Lord,
It needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don't I'll understand.

The Badge"
He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.
He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.
Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.
He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.
His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.
He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.
And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.
But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.
Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.
Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.
So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.
In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.
Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.
