A broken family left behind
Slowly healing by the day
Your soul is gone but
Thoughts of you will never fail
The family is moving on making friends and growing
Though their thoughts might fade away
They love you all the same

You were my best guy friend a girl could ask for. You were always racing in and out of my life when I needed someone to be there. Your wife and children were blessed with a very special person in their life. Always know you are in my thoughts and your family is in my prayers. Keep a special watch over my boys. My oldest still talks about "Big Bill" and has his trooper bear! Miss you always

Bill,
We miss you so much! Maverick and Kendra have turned into young adults and are doing so well. You would be so proud of both of them!!!! You would also be so proud of Hope! She is such a great mom and she works so hard to keep your memory alive for the kids sake. She talks about you all the time. We start off laughing in the beginning and end up crying! Please keep a protective eye over them everyday and take care of my husband up there with you! We love you and Hope and the kids so much!!!!!!!

To Trooper Willim McClendon and his loved ones:

On this the second anniversary of your tragic death, please know that your memory is honored and revered today.

This world, this country, your community truly are better places because of you. To have lost you is a great tragedy, an irreplaceable, immeasurable loss for society as well as your family. We are grateful for and to you, and honor you for all you did for us day in and day out whether you received a word of thanks or praise.

Rest in Peace, Trooper McClendon.

In reading the many loving reflections, I know you are so proud of your children who continue to express their love and admiration for you. I can see that that they are also reaching out to other families and are comforting and inspiring them with their support and friendship. Your greatest legacy is your children. Maybe one day I will have the privilege of meeting your family.

This reflection is sent with the utmost respect for the distinquished service Bill gave to his community and the citizens of Oaklahoma, and for the supreme sacrifice he and his family made on October 1, 2006.

In the simple performance of duty,
he pinned on a badge,
checked his gear with a practiced eye,
and kissed his loved ones good-bye.
In the simple performance of duty,
he reported for work,
joked with his buddies at roll call,
and made his last trip down the squad room hall.
In the simple performance of duty,
he answered the call
to help the helpless, to find the lost,
no matter the danger or how great the cost.
In the simple performance of duty,
he lay down his life,
for those in peril he tried to save,
our brave friend went to his grave.
In the simple performance of duty,
we honor his deed,
as we carry him to rest in a flag-draped casket,
long after the world has forgotten, we shall never forget.
Never judge or regret, what he did, In the simple performance of duty."

I've lost my dad in the line of duty as well. I've heard from your son, Maverick that you were on the way to his birthday when you were killed. I just wanted to tell you that after knowing him for two years, that he's a great person. Your daughter Kendra is just the dame. She is so nice to me and my sister. My sister talks about Maverick and Kendra all the time using coments like: "Maverick is so funny" and "Kendra is one of your friends that I think is the best". I hope you and my dad are friends and I want you to know that I will remember you along with the CA officers that have died.

As a flight nurse for Tulsa Life Flight, I worked with Trooper McClendon while organizing a training video for Tulsa Life Flight. We had a lot of fun with Trooper McClendon as he admitted that he had never called for a helicopter before. There were several takes with tongue twisters and lots of laughs as we filmed the part with Trooper McClendon calling for a helicopter over the radio. There is some footage of Trooper McClendon in the video if you are interested in watching it. There are two videos that can be found on You Tube then search Tulsa Life Flight. Please enjoy and God Bless your family!

Mr. McClendon,
My dad died too. Ten months and one day before you. I met Maverick at COPS Camp the summer of 2007 and Kendra at Washington DC 2007. Both of them are so nice and caring. Kendra is so nice and I want to become closer to her. Maverick is very nice and polite, a real friend.
Tell your family I'm thinking of them.

Bill,
I only got to meet you once before but I knew right then that you were special. Maverick is very special to me, and so is Kendra and Hope. They will always love and miss you. My dad is also an OHP. His number is 330. I couldn't live without him. I don't know how they do it. But they do it and they do it well.

"The Badge"

He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.

He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.

Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.

He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.

His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.

He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.

And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.

But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.

Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.

Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.

So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.

In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.

Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.
