Dear Brian,
After several days and nights of dark, cold, wind, and drenching rain, it was good to see your star in the night sky this evening when I had my daily talk with you. You hold such an important place in our hearts. We love you and miss you so much! Please look over us from above. May God bless you. Mrs. M.

Rest In Peace Deputy. J. Clendening #407 Glades County Sheriff's Office, FL 2009-10-01
Dear Brian,
Today your family and friends gathered in Eastover to pay tribute to you. The NC Board of Transportation dedicated a bridge near your childhood home as the Deputy Brian Matthews Bridge. It was a touching ceremony. Everyone recognizes what a dedicated officer and a fine man you were when you walked on this earth. You touched so many lives.
It was four years today that God called you home. These have been sad and empty years without you, but your dad encouraged us during the ceremony to do something positive to honor you and that we should remember how you lived. Please be assured that we will cherish your memory forever. We love you and miss you! We ask that you watch over us from above. Mrs. M.

Hello Brian....Today a bridge was named in honor of you. I know you were there as everyone honored and missed you. Lin and I laughed and cried last night as he was writing what he was going to say today. You guys made some great memories. Also today we found out that we are having a girl. I wish you were here to celebrate the news with us but I am sure you are celebrating in heaven. I remember you being there at the hospital the entire time that I was having Hayes. You said he was your "little man"...I will miss you not being there this time. You were a protector when you were here on earth and now you can protect us from heaven. I know you are a beautiful angel. We miss you can we love you each and everyday... Regina Wheeler

My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.
I hold your family in thought and prayer today. Rest In Peace,Brian.

This past Saturday we played golf in the rain and honored your memory while raising money for a very worthy cause. Tpr. Chavis again won some of the best door prizes for the fourth straight time and the rest of us had a great time as always.
In an hour and a half a bridge will be dedicated in your honor. I would love to have been able to attend this service but unforeseen circumstances are going to keep me away. I will be there in spirit and throughout this day, as I do everyday, I'll be thinking of you and your family. Four years have passed but you're still a big part of the agency and all who had the honor of working with you. Lt. Matt Hurley Cumberland County Sheriff's Office 2009-09-30
Hey Brian, Just wanted to let you know we all had a great time getting together again for a round of golf at Baywood. I got a lump in my throat thinking of you on hole 14, as I am right now as well. You were there in everyone's hearts and memories. See ya later. Trooper North Carolina State Highway Patrol 2009-09-26

Hello Sweet Brian,
We love you so much! We miss you so much! Our lives are so very empty without you! When you walked on this earth, you were a wonderful, loving, and devoted fiance, son, and brother. You were a proud officer, one of the finest. Now, you are one of Heaven's best angels. Please know that we think about you every minute of every day.
May God bless you. We send all our love to you. Until next time... Mrs. M.

The days come and go I still miss you so I try to keep going The fake side of me I am showing.
I am so tired, so sad I want to go away and hide. Everyone seems so loud. I want to get lost in the crowd.
Noone seems to understand My love for you has no end You are always in my heart You are always in my thoughts.
Inside I am screaming, Inside I am shaking, Inside I am so angry....
I LOVE YOU, my Brian. Anonymous

Dear Brian,
Happy Easter! I have thought about you even more than I normally do, if that is possible, over the past three days because it was on a Good Friday that we met you for the first time. The love of your life brought you to have dinner with us, and she was absolutely glowing! I think back to that day so much often and recall how we were immediately drawn to you. We noticed right away how respectful and polite you were.
We love you and miss you more than words can tell. We have to hold onto the assurance that we will be with you again. Even with that promise, there is a deep void in our hearts every day because you aren't here.
I read this the other day and felt that it fit, so I will share it with you:
"You came into our lives for a little while. You left footprints on our hearts, and we will never be the same." (Author Unknown)
I trust that you are showing Detective Pearson around heaven and that the two of you are discovering how much you have in common. This country has lost far too many Brothers in Blue.
Please always remember that we will cherish you forever. I ask that you look down from above and take care of us. May God bless you! Mrs. M.

Dear Brian,
I know that you have been so very busy as of late as you have welcomed the passengers and the crew of Flight 3407 and now an officer from the Wilmington Police Department. Like you, Officer Matthews gave his life trying to provide a safer place for the rest of us to live. From all accounts, he must have been a fine young man. Once again, the same as you. Your dad left a touching message on his memorial page. He and your mother miss you so much! We all miss you and love you more than words can ever say. We will always remember you and will keep you in our hearts forever. "...the righteous shall be in everlasting remembrance." (Psalm 112:6) God bless you and keep you. Mrs. M.
