I miss ya brother! I'll never forget the times we spent together on & off duty. It was cool that you named your dog after me "JACKSON". You will not be forgotten! You were an excellent Deputy. Thanks for your help & laughs throughout the years.

Kevin,

As part of an assignment for E.V.O.C. we had to research a name given us so we could share the information in class. After doing so I looked for your page. I can remember meeting you through S.B. , as you accompanied him to many evenings of beer, darts, and handing us whoopins in pool. Many people in our class got to know you and later work alongside you when we graduated. We shared many laughs and the same birthday.

I hope that you are in a place of peace and solitude. I have seen your page in the past but it has taken me this long to be able to write. You are missed amongst us all and thought of year-round.

May peace be with your family.

With highest regards,
Tina

"The Badge"

He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.

He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.

Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.

He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.

His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.

He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.

And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.

But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.

Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.

Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.

So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.

In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.

Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

HE SENT FOR YOU

THE SCHOOL YARD IS FULL OF CHILDREN AT PLAY.
LAUGHING AND SINGING ENJOYING THIER DAY.
THE HUSTLE AND BUSTLE OF CROWDS EVERYWHERE,
NOISES AND TRAFFIC....MORE THAN I CAN BEAR.
PEOPLE SMILE, TALK INCESSANTLY, LIFE GOES ON ALL AROUND ME.
THE WORLD DIDN'T END, AS I THOUGHT IT WOULD.
NOT EVEN A PAUSE AS I THOUGHT IT SHOULD.
FLOWERS STILL GROW, BIRDS SING THIER SONG.
THE SUN IS STILL SHINING...BUT IT ALL FEELS SO WRONG.
HOW CAN I GO ON....WHAT WILL I DO.
GOD NEEDED AN ANGEL, SO HE SENT FOR YOU.
I LOVE YOU KEVIN, MOM

Kevin, Not a day goes by that you are not thought of. They say that time eases the grief but that's not true. The grief will remain forever. I miss you more every day.

I don't know why tonight is the night that I decide to write this instead of July 13th, but I miss you more and more every minute!!! Life is so difficult without my one true friend and confidant! Only YOU got me! I'm not sure ANYONE else ever will. Do you know how heart-breaking that is? However, I am truly thankful that I got to have you in my life as long as I did because not many people EVER experience the kind of relationship we had. You were a brother, a friend and a soulmate all in one! I cannot wait until we meet again with the big guy upstairs, hopefully I make it there;) wink wink!!!! I LOVE you and miss you every second of every day!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Here it is two whole years.....& today at your place of rest I still couldn't fight the tears. It still hurts knowing the only positive male influence that I've had in my life has left this earth forever. My "big brother," the big brother I wish I had, if only I could make you proud and be half the man/person/friend you were to me. Kevin, I made a promise to you, that I would follow in your steps.......I WILL become what I promised to be. Continue to keep providing me with the strength to live as I promised I would. Guide me in the right direction......

I love always,

On the 2nd anniversary of Deputy Blount's death, we honored his service in our patrol briefing by reading his entry from ODMP. Each day, we honor one fallen officer on the anniversary of their death so as to keep them in our thoughts, and also to remind us of the dangers inherent in our job. Deputy Blount is not forgotten.

It's been two years since we lost you, but the pain we feel is as if it happened yesterday. Kevin, you touched so many lives. You should see all the beautiful flowers and tributes people left you at the cemetery, it's overwhelming. We're all going out to the memorial at the crash site and then to Player's tonight. We will be celebrating your life. I love you Son. Love, Mom

I know a lad who yesterday went running up the hill
I would he could again today
But oh he never will
The lad that climbed the hill that day
Has climbed another hill
from which he can not come away
And oh he never will.

Kevin,

It still seems a horrible nightmare that you're gone. I think of you everyday, when I look at my son, Christopher Kevin. I strive each day to be the man you were, and raise my son to be like his Uncle Kevin (minus the minitruck in high school & "chain link" injury).

I'm writing now because I got a memorial tattoo, like so many others have for you and Joe. Mine is finally done, and it looks spectacular. I got the design from your memorial at the Sacramento Law Enforcement Officer's Memorial. All that's well and fine, but the important part is the flames in the desingn, signifying "Ring of Fire," one of our many must play songs on Monday nights at Player's. I have nothing but great memories with you brother, and miss you like words can't relate. I knew someday I'd lose a friend, a partner, in the line of duty, but it wasn't supposed to be you, my best friend.

Like everyone in our career, I hope to make it home to my family every day. If I ever don't, I pray I can leave a legacy like you, and go out "having the best job in the world," as you described flying with Joe. If that day ever comes, I'll see you in Heaven, and the first round of Washington apples is on me.

I love you buddy,
Dave

HIGH FLIGHT

By John G. Magee, Jr.

Oh, I have slipped the surly bonds of earth
And danced the skies on laughter - silvered wings;

Sunward I have climbed and joined the tumbling mirth
Of sun-split clouds - and done a hundred things
You have not dreamed of - wheeled and soared and swung.

High in the sunlit silence. Hov'ring there,
I've chased the shouting wind along, and flung
My eager craft through the footless halls of air.

Up, up the long, delirious, burning blue
I've topped the windswept heights with easy grace
Where never lark, or even eagle flew.

And, while with silent lifting mind I've trod
The high untrespassed sanctity of space,
Put out my hand, and touched the face of God.

YOU ARE NOT FORGOTTEN!

Police Officer

Fly,fly do not fear. Don't waste a breath, don't shed a tear. Your heart is pure, your soul is free, be on your way don't wait for me. Above the universe you'll climb, on beyond the hands of time. The moon will rise the sun will set, but I will not forget.
I love you, Mom

May God grant comfort and peace to those who knew and loved you on this day. It is obvious that many remember you fondly and that your family and friends have many shoulders to share their burdens with here on earth.

One year ago today, you shed your earthly wings to take on God's duties in heaven as one of his blue angels. Rest in peace, sir. Job well done.
