Rest in Peace, Officer Gonzalez. Your sacrifice is not forgotten.

Forgive me for missing the anniversary of your E.O.W., but I felt as though I could not continue to read about so many tragedies. I now realize the visit each day to leave a word of encouragement and hope to the loved ones of others, helps me to remember that I am not alone with my pain and heartbreak. So may I say to your friends and loved ones that my thoughts and prayers are with them now and always. Continue to keep watch over them and those still out on patrol and may they know you will never be forgotten.

Hey my friend "Ganzita." It's Christmas 2008, and on every Christmas I remember you. I will never forget sitting above you in the Corcoran SHU housing unit, 1989. I was the Control Room Officer and you were the Floor Officer. We were on first watch and we discovered we could make outside calls. I always remember you calling your brother and saying Ho Ho Ho, pretending to be Santa Clause. You bring fond memories. In my Office I have a picture of you with a poem next to it. It couldn't fit better, as you were a brave admirable man who couldn't imagine the worst. The poem is written by an LAPD Sergeant.
"I NEVER DREAMED IT WOULD BE ME; MY
NAME FOR ALL ETERNITY; RECORDED HERE
AT THIS HOLLOWED PLACE; ALAS, MY NAME
NO MORE MY FACE. "IN THE LINE OF DUTY
I HEAR THEM SAY; MY FAMILY NOW THE THE
THE PRICE WILL PAY; MY FOLDED FLAG
STAINED WITH THEIR TEARS; WE ONLY HAD
THOSE FEW SHORT YEARS. THE BADGE NO
LONGER ON MY CHEST; I SLEEP NOW IN
ETERNAL REST. MY SWORD I PASS TO
THOSE BEHIND; AND PRAY THEY KEEP
THIS THOUGHT IN MIND. I NEVER DREAMED
IT WOULD BE ME; AND WITH HEAVY HEART
AND BENDED KNEE; I ASK FOR ALL HERE
FROM THE PAST; DEAR GOD, LET MY NAME
BE THE LAST."
I still have your "WAR" casette tape. I never got a chance to give it back. Sorry.

It has been four years since I heard of your death and three years since I posted a comment, but some how your tragedy has stayed with me. I walk the dorms and halls of our unit and sometimes think of your family and wonder if I may join you one day; your legacy of service and duty keeps me vigilant bro.

Peace and love to your family.

My anger has somewhat subsided.

I still have a CDC-R documentary that details the thankless job, the dangers, and that fateful day in Chino.

I still discuss that fateful day in Hawaiian Gardens with less-tenured personnel.

I will NEVER forget the names Jose Luis Orozco and John Blaylock, what they did, and what happened to the two of You.

I also will NEVER stop being hard on my buddy who is CDC-R, reminding him to hone his skills.

May the two of You, Rest - In - Peace.

I was there that day. It was the worst day of my twenty-five year career. I always hoped I could retire without seeing a fellow co-worker murdered. I failed in that hope. To those of you coming onboard read this and take heed: This is NOT just a paycheck, or just a job. These people mean business and so should you! RIP, Manny. We all have to walk that "GREEN MILE!" Some sooner. Some later.

one year you picked me and steven up from a party when we were hammerd, lol, you took me into your home and treated me like i was one of your own. i was feeling sick as a dog and you made sure steven and i were ok. you were a die hard raider fan with a passion for collecting cars. you were a good father and husband for the time that i've gotten to know you. i wish you were here so that we can dicuss football over a nice cold beer. and even though i'm not a raider fan anymore, i hope that they make it to the super bowl next year in honor of your loyalty to the team and the game. well Mr. Gonzales, i hope to see you again someday and that you'll be there at the gates of heaven when i go home with god. till then my frien, rest in peace and god bless. P.S... Say hello to the big guy for me. your friend

The Family Of Officer Gonzalez

In the beginning, I wondered if I would ever make it through. There were periods of anger, sadness, pain, and grief, times when I wondered, "WHY ME"?. But one day, there was a glinmpse of light, and then another. The clouds began to break apart, and I started to see beyond them. The times when I felt happy and safe began to outnumber the times when I felt sad and frightened. New friendships were formed, feelings of trust and resolution began to replace past feelings of hopelessness and self-doubt. I seemed to emerge from the darkness into the light with a new sense of empowerment. I now realize that there are things about my past that I cannot change, but I can stop them from controlling my life and my happiness. I know that this part of my life will never go away entirely, but it has begun to take a less prominent place in my existence. I have begun to allow other thoughts to enter my mind, and I have a better understanding of myself. My Strengths and weaknesses. I'm not afraid to set limits. I've begun to enjoy life again and to think about the future. I can now look back on this time for what it was, a period of growth, self-discovery, and healing!!!! God Bless.
