Happy Birthday Tony,Sure do miss you. We are having a dedication tomorrow (Oct. 26) because they have named highway 18 in Pike county Trooper Tony Lumley Memorial Highway. I have been trying to get this done for 5 yrs. Billy Maddox finally got it passed for me. I hope we have a good turnout. We will release 42 balloons in honor of your birthday. Son I know you will be looking down smiling. Love and miss you very much. Mama

Just sitting her thinking about you and that crazy dance you use to do all the time like Carlton on Fresh Prince of Bel Air..you were so funny. I miss you a lot. I think about you every time I eat sushi and how you and I ate it when we all went to the beach that summer. Some days dont seem real knowing you arent here anymore. You definately could make any situation laughable! I love you.Tammy Wright

Tony, I was thinking of you today and remembering all the happy times we had at Post 1. Your gift of making everyone you meet lighten up and laugh a little is unforgetable. You were so kind to everyone and always tried to lift them up and encourage them. I have your memorial picture hanging on the wall in my office and every time I look at it, I think of your friendship and your sacrifice.

Tony, I was thinking about you and came on the page to see who all had left a message lately. Over 4 yrs have passed and it is still just as tough. It is good to see others still thinking of you too. I love you and I miss you everyday.

"The Badge"

He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.

He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.

Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.

He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.

His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.

He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.

And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.

But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.

Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.

Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.

So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.

In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.

Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

It is really hard to believe that it has already been four years. It seems like just yesterday that we were talking at the post--you worrying about a silly complaint. Seems so trivial now, doesn't it? Brother, I just wanted to tell you that you are missed and thought of often. Watch out for us down here.

Brother, It has been a tough week. Hard to believe it has been 4 yrs. I went to the Christmas Party last night and saw some of the guys and girls. Corbett, Stone,Mimbs,McMillan,Boyd just to name a few. We shared some funny moments remembering you and the things you did and said. It really helps to cope with this time of year. I Love and miss you everyday.
