I can't believe it's been so long. It seems like yesterday when you were riding with me in the patrol car and so eager to find trouble.
JD, Your littel girl is all grown up. We attended her graduation from High School on June 7th and the memories flooded all of us. You should be extremely proud of the young lady she has become. Continue to watch over us from above and and I will do the same from here.

"The Badge"

He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.

He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.

Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.

He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.

His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.

He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.

And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.

But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.

Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.

Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.

So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.

In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.

Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

Gosh I cant beleive its been over five years. The thing I remember most is the day that we had to get pepper spayed.John David and I partnered up . He of course went first. I knew he was trying to act like it didnt burn. I asked him over and over" does it burn does it burn????" He stared out saying "no not really." The last time I ask him he pulled his head out of the bucket full of ice water, snot running out of his nose and his eyes shut he turned his head my way and said "HELL YEA IT BURNS!!!!" We laughed are heads off the entire ride home. I really miss you buddy.....love ya

HArd to think of the years that have gone by without you. Its funny how I run into people from all over Houston area that knew you and how you helped or touched their lives.
Im sure you know that Patricia and Olga are back in the house and have done quite a bit to it. You would be proud of both..They Love you so much.
You would love our son and your nephew, Seth Alexander. He is 15 months now and rest assured he will know all about his Uncle David.
Keep an eye out on us my friend.

I worked with John David on several occassions on the streets around the Magnolia area. I reserved with MCCD PCT5 for a short tenure. I can say that John David was a very respectable deputy and friend. I met John David through my Uncle Rick Davis 8505 who passed away after I left the department.

These two men are to thank for my current position with the Pealrand Police Dept (5yrs). I miss them both and I pulled up this site this morning after my memories were sparked by the recent death of the two depuites in Payne Springs.

I remember the stories and BBQ's with John David in attendance. John David was very humerous and could make me laugh until my face hurt. I will always remember him, and I pray that his family be forever blessed.

It will be 3 years that your tour of duty ended and I know the tears and broken hearts are the same today as the day they lost you. Keep watch over them, wrap your wings around them and help them with their grief. Also, keep watch over those still out on patrol. You will never be forgotten and are a true hero and heroes never die.

Hard to believe how the years are slipping by. Still not a day goes by that we do not thing about you, Your stickers on so many cars through out the area serve as a contant reminder of how much everyone cares for you.
You would be so proud of your daughter. She has grown into quite a young lady and misses you dearly.

Hey big brother it has been a little over 2 years and yet it seems like yesturday that we were singing kareoke in the living room on the big screen .I know that you are watching over each one of us and i miss you so much .There is not one day that goes by that i don't think of you .I have a baby girl and her name is Victoria Liane and everyday that i look at her i can't help but to think of you cause i know that you would be spoiling her rotten right now.I tell her about you all the time and she will know about all the fun times that we had together and all the crazy things that you and i did together I love you David and i wish you were here to hold her she's a true gift from God watch over and protect us I love you big brother rest in peace

I just want to let Shannon and Patricia know that everyday in some small way we all think of J.D. Whther it be when we tap our fingers as he did when he was bored, whether he knew it or not, or when we save quarters for own babies as he did for you Patricia. I remember changing my quarters for his cash. He was always trying to think of some way to make sure you would go to school. He loved you both with all his heart. He made that clear to anyone he met family first. Always stop and listen or you might miss a whisper.

As John Davids best friend and former brother in law, and Police officer I know that he would have approved of the following:
After the investigation of his death had concluded and ruled an accident, I contacted the woman by mail that caused the accident. I wanted to convey the families thoughts and prayers towards her and that she was forgiven!
Accidents like this can happen to anyone of us on either end. Although David will never be forgotten and will live in our hearts and minds forever, he would have wanted the family to forgive her and to not let it ruin her family as well as herself.
I found out that since the accident, she has not found any joy in her life and that this has caused a deterioration of her physical and mental health.
My letter was well received and as she wrote back stated "My prayers have been answered. Since the accident, everynight I pray for God's and David's forgiveness as well as his families".
I was glad to know that she was then able to try to gather the peices of her life and continue.
I received word that this past month,
(October) that while getting ready to go into the hospital for a hip replacement (non releated to the accident) that she passed out and later died due to kidney failure.
We as well as her family found comfort knowing that she found peace within herself and with the knowledge that John David's family held no ill feeling for her.
Although tragedy happens in our lives, Its strange how we are able to pick up the pieces and still help one another.
I hope that those that read this and have had similar experiences can search theirs hearts and seek God for the strength to forgive and carry on.
As a Police Officer for the past 15 years, I know the pain of losing many dear friends and now family.
Keep the faith in God and everything else will fall into place.
