THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE, REST IN PEACE.

N.J. TROOPER
NEW JERSEY STATE POLICE

2008-03-12

"The Badge"

He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.

He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.

Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.

He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.

His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.

He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.

And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.

But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.

Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.

Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.

So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.

In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.

Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

Robert, it's been six long years and we all miss you so much. Christine, the kids and I are going to make the drive to Roswell to be with everyone this weekend. As much as we love seeing everyone, I'm sorry that it is due to the anniversay of you departure. You tried to talk me into transfering to NMSP, but my feet are set in Colorado. However, a large part of me wishes I would have had the opportunity to serve along side you. Who knows what kinda of trouble we could have gotten into. I know everyone will enjoy being together, please watch over us all. Until we see each other again, God bless.

It will soon be 5 years that your tour of duty ended and I salute you for your dedicated service to law enforcement. You are a true hero and will never be forgotten. I know the tears still flow from the heart of your loved ones and will for many more years. I know the pain they feel and that they live with each and every day. They will always remember you. They carried you in their arms when you were a baby and toddler, now they carry you in their hearts. Keep watch over them and wrap your wings around them and protect them from harm. Remember, heroes never die and the Blue Family will never let you be forgotten.

God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.

You gave your life to make a change for the betterment of mankind. You are truly an angel. God saw that and took you to be with Him at his side.
Thank you for your sacrifice. We love you, dear one. Life is eternal and we will meet some day. In the meantime, please pray for us as we pray for you daily.

Happy Birthday Mijo

We may never understand the things
God permits to be.
To lose someone in the newness
of life and energy.
Our hearts are broken and
the pain seems so much.
It is then we feel his firm
and gentle touch.
God knows each time a young man is
born and taken away, our son Robert
was one he didn't allow to stay.
The angels carried Robert
high to see the King.

"Gone but never forgotten"
We love you so much Mijo.
Together forever
Mom and Dad

FAREWELL

No farewells were spoken
There was no time for Good-byes
You were gone before we knew it.
Only God knows why.

If tears could build a staiway
And hearts could build a lane
We would walk away to heaven
To bring you back agin.

Friends may think we have forgotten
When at times they see us smile
Little do they know the heartache
Our smiles hide all the while.

To some you may be forgotten
To others a part of the past,
But to those who loved and lost you
Your memory will always last.

Veto, it will be your 33rd Birthday in a few days. It is still so hard without you. We miss you so much, you will be forever in our hearts.

Your aunt,
