You are remembered today and thank you Sir for your service VanDenBerghe I am the great grandson of Elsie Green and the Grandson of Virginia Green (Anderson). I had only heard of you, and you died almost exactly 4 years before I was born. My grandfather served the public as the Colorado Springs Fire Chief, I now find myself as a Sheriff's deputy in Montana. Funny how the turns in life bring you full circle, only when you get back to the start of a circle...it's different than when you left that point. Our family continues to remember you, and I will carry your memory as a token of strength to insure that tonight, I will go home to our family as I know you wish you had. If there are family members or other officers that would like to contact me, you may email erikolson@vcn.com. Dep. Erik Olson (Cousin/Green grandson) Our deepest sympathy goes out to the family, friends and all the members of the Oregon State Police. We were made safer by his service and we all suffer their tragic loss. The family of Officer Bates deserves our appreciation and gratitude for their sacrifice. No greater love has a man than the will to give his life for another. In the days to follow, may you be strengthened by the fact that Officer Bates is a man distinguished by exceptional courage and will always be admired for his brave deeds and noble qualities. You, your family and your sacrifice will never be forgotten. Thomas Doyle Although i never had the oppertunity to meet this wonderful man it was four years after his death i was born, but his life impacted my life greatly. Cheri Lea Cousin Ralph, I remember you visiting in your little red sports car. You have been missed all these many years.
