Heaven was Needing a Hero:
I came by today to see you Though I had to let you know If I knew the last time that I held you was the last time, I'd have held you and never let go Oh it's kept me awake night wonderin' Lie in the dark, just asking "why?" I've always been told you won't be called home until it's your time
I guess Heaven was needing a hero Somebody just like you Brave enough to stand up for what you believe and follow it though When I try to make it make sense in my mind The only conclusion I come to Is that Heaven was needing a hero like you
I remember the last time I saw you Oh you held your head up proud I laughed inside when I saw how you were, standing out in the crowd You're such a part of who I am Now that part will just be void No matter how much I need you now Heaven needed you more
'Cause Heaven was needing a hero Somebody just like you Brave enough to stand up for what you believe and follow it though When I try to make it make sense in my mind The only conclusion I come to Is that Heaven was needing a hero like you
Yes, Heaven was needing a hero...that's you.

MSG Talbot,
I have the pleasure os serving with your son Doug in the Patrol Division of the Collinsville Police Department. As I understand, you never had the chance to see him in uniform. I hope that it would be of some comfort to you to know that he is one of the finest officers I have ever served with. He is a legacy to your name and commitment to the job. Thank you for your service, you are missed by all of us. Anonymous

Your heroism and service is honored today, the eighth anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.
Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered.
Rest In Peace.

Well Stanley, it's been almost 8 years since you left us. Many times I've thought about the first time we worked together, way back in '86 when you were in Investigations, along with the time you heard me calling for ISP assistance on the fatal 10-50 and you almost beat me to the scene even though you were getting ready to go 402 in your driveway. I'm very sure Steve Struble was right when he said, YOU ARE STILL FIGHTING THE EVIL FORCES.... RDP

We all miss you! You were always like a father to me. I got a smile on my face when I read through theses and found out you had an unmarked when in D-05. Thats cause I'm running a green unmarked in D-08 kinda funny how things work out... Thanks for riding shot gun with me! 8-38 Friend 2009-06-03

Seven years. It seems like only yesterday- the whole sequence of events goes through my mind so clearly. It seems like an eternity ago since I heard your voice and saw your face. So much has changed since you've been gone. Your son and daughter are grown up now with kids of their own. Rest assured that Will, Tyler, and Madsion will grow up with an abundance of stories about Grandpa Stanley. You are still very missed.

"The Badge"
He starts his shift each day To respond to calls unknown. He drives a marked patrol car. A police officer he is known.
He's paid by the citizens' taxes To make it safe on the streets. But he usually has a second job 'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.
Now he doesn't know a holiday 'Cause he works all year round. And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive At his home he cannot be found.
He's cursed and assaulted often, The one whos blood runs blue. He seldom ever gets a thanks, To some he's just a fool.
His friends are always other cops 'Cause people just don't understand That underneath his badge and gun, He's just another man.
He knows there might not be a tomorrow In this world of drugs and crime. And he gets so mad at the court system 'Cause the crooks don't get any time.
And each day when he leaves for work, He prays to God above. Please bring me home after my shift So I can see the ones I love.
But tonight he stops a speeding car, He's alone down this ole' highway. It's just a little traffic infraction. He does it everyday.
Well, he walks up to the driver's window, And his badge is shining bright. He asked the guy for a driver's license, When a shot rang through the night.
Yes, the bullet hit its mark, Striking the officer in the chest. But the Department's budget didn't buy Each officer a bullet-proof vest.
So he lay on the ground bleeding. His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red. And briefly he thought of his loved ones 'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.
In the news they told the story Of how this officer had died. And some who listened cared less, But those who loved him cried.
Well, they buried him in uniform With his badge pinned on his chest. He even had his revolver, He died doing his best.

I was just thinking about the good old days and thought I had better pay a visit. That horrible night seems just like yesterday as I can recite word for word of that night. I know you are patroling the highways up in heaven and look down on your family and smile! Rest in peace Stanley! Jared M. Hawkinson Former TC IL State Police Dist 7 2007-09-30

In loving memory of M/S Stanley Talbot: We are at the 2 year mark and I hope it has gotten easier for your family and friends. You died such a violent death and you were so close to retirement after serving faithfully for so many years. Even with the passage of time your memory will not be erased and our hats are off to you for your dedicated service. May God continue to be close to all those still grieving. We honor you today for your supreme sacrifice. Lynn Kole Washington State

Stan you were my friend and classmate at the training institute at the University of Illinois during the spring and summer of 1973. I will always remember you as the one who should have won the "Earl H. Warren" award, because your entire career you were truly the example what a Police Officer should be. Stan you are a hero, and my thoughts a prayers are with your family, and co-workers. Special Agent Dennis W. Haley Florida Department of Law Enforcement 2004-03-20
It is so hard to think that you were taken from us 2 years ago today. I know Jenny and I will never forget that horrible night, but we still chuckle as we think about the good ole "Stan Talbot" way of doing things.
We also know that you would be very proud of your daughter Dyan. We can sure tell that she is a product of your policing methods!
Rest in peace "7-4" TCCT Jared Hawkinson Illinois State Police District 7
