Your heroism and service is honored today, the eighth anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered. Rest In Peace.

Kay, you have had to endure so many losses. I hold you in my heart's embrace today along with your other family members.

"The Badge"

He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.

He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.

Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.

He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.

His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.

He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.

And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.

But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.

Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.

Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.

So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.

In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.

Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

Creighton I can not believe that has been already four years since you have left us. You won’t believe who I had talked to today. I talked with Troy Poitra; he is with the Hopi Agency and is living in the Winslow area. This was the first time in about four years…he has not changed very much.

I talk with Mike Schumacher often…and he is still in Owyhee. We talk about you often and we all miss you very much.

I hope that your family is doing well… I am sure that your daughter is growing up to be a fine young lady. My daughter will be two in May. She is growing like a weed.

I remember before we had left for the Academy you had received the acceptance letter to the Nevada Highway Patrol and you had decided to stay with the BIA. Well I am considering a Lateral Transfer to them; it is something that my wife and I are talking about.

Creighton I am going to go for now…but you’re always in my thoughts. I will do my part in keeping the
Streets safe here you watch over me from there.

Well Spencer I can not believe that today marks the 3rd anniversary. A lot has happen since then.

I have since left the Bureau of Indian Affairs shortly after you had left us. I took over as Chief of Police of a community in Missouri. I had missed out west so my wife and I had just moved back to Arizona. I am now with a Sheriff’s Department.

But thinking back to that Sunday you had died. I remember you and me riding together and going to the range and qualifying. I remember you telling me that how your mom was your best friend and how much you loved your wife and baby girl.

I also remember you saying how you could not wait to become the canine officer. Well To catch you up… I have become a canine handler for three years now, to help finish what you had started. That is how I met my wife. She had owned her own canine company and she had become my instructor.

We now have a baby girl named Hayley, she turns 10 months tomorrow. She is the apple of my eye. I wish you could be there for your daughter. I know how much she meant to you as much as you meant to her.

You always gave 110%, but Spencer I wish you would have just gone home and spent your time with your family like I told you to instead of going out ahead for the shots fired call.

You had made everyone proud of you, that is to include your dad. I remember the day that we graduated from the academy and the instructors gave you the picture of you and your dad standing together. You had left it there the first time you had attended there. You left to go to Washington when they added your dads name to the wall. I remember looking at your dad’s name at the Indian Law Enforcement Memorial, now it is your name that I now look at.

I saw such a spark in your eye that day, you knew your dad walked across the stage with you at graduation.

I keep a picture of you me and smith in my living room. That was the time we all went to Carlsbad Caverns. There is not a day goes by that I don’t think of you.

Well Creighton I am going to go for now, but just remember that I am always thinking of you and that you impacted my life in such away that made me a better law enforcement officer. Brother I can not thank you enough for what you had given me.

Please watch over me I need the help from time to time.

To the family, friends, and co-workers of Officer Spencer I want you to know you are in my prayers. It is very hard to lose someone so sudden, but I can only imagine what it would be like to lose two people you love. When I lost my fiance' I thought life was very unfair but I have come to realize we only learn from life. God only gives us what we can handle. They say God always takes the good ones first and I have to believe that is true. Please know that your loved ones are in a much better place and will always be looking down upon you. Good luck in the future and again you will be in my prayers.

I read your husband reflection and it took my breath away. Seeing the picture of him holding his daughter reminds me of the pictures I have of my husband holding our babies. Then your tribute to him was so much like the one I had left for my own husband on here only 10 months ago.

My husband was also a Police Officer who was killed when his cruiser was struck by a semi truck. Some days are diamonds, Some days are dust. May God Bless you and your daughter Tonya and always keep you close!
