Forgive me for missing the anniversary of your E.O.W., but I felt as though I could not continue to read about so many tragedies. I now realize the visit each day to leave a word of encouragement and hope to the loved ones of others, helps me to remember that I am not alone with my pain and heartbreak. So may I say to your friends and loved ones that my thoughts and prayers are with them now and always. Continue to keep watch over them and those still out on patrol and may they know you will never be forgotten.

I was just laughing the other day, telling my fellow officers about some of the drunks we dealt with together. You didn't just find drunk drivers, you found the strangest ones on the road. Miss fiding those guys and laughing about those times with you. We will never forget you.

"The Badge"

He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.

He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.

Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.

He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.

His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.

He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.

And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.

But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.

Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.

Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.

So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.

In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.

Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

Trooper, Thank You. To your family both born and sworn I wish peace. I knew Patrolman Hawkins, I was enraged and heartbroken when it came across CNN that he was murdered. I am very proud that fellow officers will hunt down and bring to justice anyone that hurts an officer. Thank you

Dear Trooper Manspeaker,

Thank you for your service to your community, to your country, and in aid of your fellow fallen brother Officer Aubrey W. Hawkins, Irving, Texas P.D. all those years ago.

Your sacrifice was not in vain; those animals -- "The Texas Seven" -- were caught and I hope the charges against them included your untimely passing as you were aiding in their arrest and conviction of their shameful, thoughtless and cowardly actions.

You are rememerbered in my prayers as is your family.

I didn't know Officer Hawkins or your husband, Mrs. Manspeaker, but they were the type of men that make this world worth fighting for. Thank you for giving him to the world. My heart is with you as are my prayers.

Godspeed, Trooper Jason Lee Manspeaker. And God Bless.

You are not forgotten.

Hey Jason, I just wanted to let you know that I miss you a lot. And Think of you all the time. I know that I was pretty young when you passed away but I still remember you and how cool of a person you were. I am now 15 years old, and a sophomore at FMHS GO WILDCATS! I still play soccer I now play on a competitive team, and the high school team. For the most part everyone is doing pretty well in the family. Mom has her days with her RA, and dad is still as ornery as ever but I still love him. Kirsten is now living in Denver, she is really happy over there, and we are all proud. Guy and Dani are still up in Wyoming and they are both doing well. Well I’ll see you someday. Hope all is well we all love and miss you! Take care of yourself. I'll keep in touch cuz.

Love, Keisha

You lost your life trying to find the persons involved with the brutal slaying of a fellow officer. You are not a hero because of the way you died, you are a hero because of the way you lived. Thank you for your service, rest easy.
