Your heroism and service is honored today, the ninth anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered.

Trooper Perez,I travel the Ohio turnpike every other weekend with my family and pass your memorial on my way to Toledo. Your memorial is striking and and is always well manicured, it brings a smile to my face knowing that your were protecting our families and highways! Thank you for that and I hope your family is doing well. Thank you for your service. R.I.P. Trooper Perez.

He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.

He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.

Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.

He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.

His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.

He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.

And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.

But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.

Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.

Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.

So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.

In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.

Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

I REMEMBER ROBERT PEREZ AS A CHILD, I KNEW HIS MOTHER, AND BABYSAT HIM ON NUMEROUS OCCASION, I STILL THINK OF HIM AT TIMES, HOW SWEET HE WAS AS A CHILD, AND HOW PROTECTIVE HE WAS OF HIS MOTHER. HE WILL ALWAYS BE IN MY THOUGHTS.

I attended the Ohio State Highway Patrol's memorial service for the first time this past May and was moved by the dedication the Patrol has for remembering it's fallen officers. I was also greatly moved by the number of family members who come back year after year to honor their loved ones...some who have died over 50 years ago.

My boyfriend is a trooper with the Ohio State Highway Patrol. I have always been proud of his job and his affiliation with the Patrol, but am even more so after attending the service. People always use the "words" "you will never be forgotten. The family of OSHP live by those words.

To the Family of a Robert,
You might not know me but I am Antonio Baez, son of Jose and Maria Baez in Lorain, OH, I remember the day Robert went home with God, my brother who was close with Tony Perez, came home and said that Robert had been slain while conducting a traffic stop, most importantly I remember his Funeral I never seen so many Officers in my life I remember going to the funeral @ North Coast and the line to get in the door was like nothing but men and women in blue, and the serman that morning was unbeleivable. I truely didn't know Robert but, I felt remorse because he was family, it has been 7 years since the accident, and I still remember that day, I visited a National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial in Wash. D.C. and I found Roberts name rejoyced on a wall of heroes. May god bless you and fam. and always remember the memories.

Robert I can’t believe it has been 7 years. I miss you my brother. Because of you I’m working in law enforcement. I remember you were so proud of your job and proud to wear the uniform everyday. Every time I wear my uniform I think about you and I feel proud of my uniform and my job too. I always remember the good times we had together, drinking eight o’clock coffee on Saturday nights watching cops. Great memories. You are always on my mind and I never going to forget you, my brother. I miss you, God bless you and I see you in heaven.

Trooper Robert Perez is my nephew and he passed on my birthday. After his passing, I dreaded May 15th and it did nothing for me. But my wife revealed to me that this day is not a sad day, it is a day to rejoice because it is the day that Robert met the Lord. He had obviously touched so many lives in his short time, and his duty was done here on earth. We were blessed to have him as part of family and we are all very proud of him still!

I remember Robert sitting in my living room many nights watching COPS and he was so involved in the shows. He dreamed of being a State Trooper and he did it.

I miss you and love you.
