"The Badge"
He starts his shift each day To respond to calls unknown. He drives a marked patrol car. A police officer he is known.
He's paid by the citizens' taxes To make it safe on the streets. But he usually has a second job 'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.
Now he doesn't know a holiday 'Cause he works all year round. And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive At his home he cannot be found.
He's cursed and assaulted often, The one whos blood runs blue. He seldom ever gets a thanks, To some he's just a fool.
His friends are always other cops 'Cause people just don't understand That underneath his badge and gun, He's just another man.
He knows there might not be a tomorrow In this world of drugs and crime. And he gets so mad at the court system 'Cause the crooks don't get any time.
And each day when he leaves for work, He prays to God above. Please bring me home after my shift So I can see the ones I love.
But tonight he stops a speeding car, He's alone down this ole' highway. It's just a little traffic infraction. He does it everyday.
Well, he walks up to the driver's window, And his badge is shining bright. He asked the guy for a driver's license, When a shot rang through the night.
Yes, the bullet hit its mark, Striking the officer in the chest. But the Department's budget didn't buy Each officer a bullet-proof vest.
So he lay on the ground bleeding. His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red. And briefly he thought of his loved ones 'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.
In the news they told the story Of how this officer had died. And some who listened cared less, But those who loved him cried.
Well, they buried him in uniform With his badge pinned on his chest. He even had his revolver, He died doing his best.

I was leaving a reflection for my cousin, Deputy Mike Pace, when I noticed the memorial page for Officer Crumley. Officer Crumley and my cousin both ended their watch on the same day. God got not one, but two angels that day. My thoughts and prayers go out to the Crumley family during this holiday season because we know the pain of losing a family member at this time of year. It eases my heart to know that Mike went to the Lord with a fellow officer and they are together now still on duty taking care of their family, law enforcement family, and friends. God Bless You! On one more note, Jasmine, your father would be proud of the amazing young woman you have become. Keep the faith. Dana Overton Cousin to the late Deputy Mike Pace 2007-12-02
Dear Jazmin, What an exceptional young lady you sound like, and I am certain that your daddy and your Heavenly Father are both so very proud of you. You have the keys of the kingdom in your hands, and you are a wonderful witness. May the Lord continue to bless you and your loved ones richly, I pray.--JOANIE Joanie Mother, daughter, sister, and granddau. of LEOs 2006-12-29
Jarvis, although we did not know each other personally, but we shared a common bond. I commend and respect you for your courageous efforts. Andra' cousin 2006-10-28
I miss you and will always love you man! Thank you for being A great big cousin to me and my brothers. I will always remember the talks we had and the advice you alway gave me. Thank You! Cornelius Watts Cousin 2006-09-26
Daddy, It seems like its been forever. And though I miss you like crazy I cannot cry tears of sorrow beacause I know that you are in such a place that even if you could come back, you probably would not. I know that you'd rather wait on us to join you. I know that if and only if I live the life that God has called me to live, I will see you again. So when I feel down, I regain strenght by remembering that I have a job to do that pays what no other earthly or carnal job can pay. I love you. And although you are not here physically, you still have a huge and special place in my heart. And for anyone who is reading this and feels as though all hope is lost, just remember that the end has not yet come. Get up and do a work for God so that when it is your time to leave us, God will say WELL DONE and my daddy will meet you at the gates of heaven. But don't forget that you must be born again to recieve such a reward. I miss you daddy, but I want you to know that I am still serving the Lord with all my heart, soul, mind and strength, so that when God says WELL DONE, you can look at me and proudly say the same. I love you. Your one and only, Jazmin Jazmin Crumley Daughter 2006-09-24
I salute you for your service and honor you for your sacrifice.

A Million Times
A million times we've needed you, A million times we've cried. If love alone could've saved you, You would have never died. In life we loved you dearly, In death we love you still. In our hearts you hold a place, No one else could ever fill. It broke our hearts to lose you, But you didn't go alone. Part of us went with you, The day God took you home.

In Memory of Officer Crumley---
~~~~~The Broken Chain~~~~~
We little knew that morning that God was going to call your name.~~In life we loved you dearly, in death we do the same.~~It broke our hearts to lose you, you did not go alone; for part of us went with you, the day God called you home.~~You left us peaceful memories, your love is still our guide; and though we cannot see you, you are always at our side.~~Our family chain is broken, and nothing seems the same; but as God calls us one by one, the Chain will link again.
Officer Crumley You sacraficed your all in the line of duty. I am your brother officer. Yet miles away I feel the loss. Than you Jarvis for holding the "Thin Blue Line". Yourbrother officer from Oregon State Police. Sr. Trooper keith Miller. Sr. Trooper Keith Miller Oregon State Police
I've only seen you a few times at the precinct with my mother, Officer Melody Maddox. You are the nicest person anyone could meet. When I first heard that an officer from DeKalb County South Precinct was killed, I called my mother and asked her did she know you. She said yes and she told me I knew you to. When I remembered who you were I was deeply hurt. My mother said she had to report the news to your wife. She said that was the hardest thing she's ever had to do. You will be missed. We all love you. Now you are in a better place, with God. Till we all meet again. Indira Age 14
