What a nice looking young man. Officer Rodgers you and your family were cheated out of so many, many years together. I pray they find comfort in knowing that we never take for granted what you gave that day so that others could continue to live a safe life.Dana,I've read your many notes about Deputy Rodgers. Even after so many years you're still so devoted to him. What a special, true love you have. I pray for you.

Deputy Rodgers I am a retired poice officer from Iowa now living in Florida. You payed the ultimate price protecting your community, family and friends. You are a true hero. Your memory will never be forgotten, and as I have read Dana has been making sure of that for the past 11 years. You died doing the job that you love, and that I do understand. Putting on the uniform everday day was something I did with pride ervery day, as I understand you felt the same. I would be proud to stand side by side with you. Dana I am so sorry for your loss, I have no words that can take away the pain. But I must say that after reading all of Josephs reflections I left with a smile. Don't get me wrong, when ever I read about an officer down my heart breaks, as it did with Josephs. But reading about how you kept his memory alive for so many years, and then how you were finally able to move forward with your life, I felt much happiness for both you ans Joseph. Your were able to move forward, keep Joseph in your life and have twin daughters. Finding the mister or misses right the first time for some is tough, but twice, Impossible for most, Joseph had to be there to help. Maybe they were the daughters that he dreamed of having. You, Joseph and the girls will always be in my prayers. I am going to look for an organization or department that needs volunteers or funds in my area. Thank You. God Bless You and The Twins. Mark (Retired WPD)

Deputy Sheriff Joseph C. Rodgers,
I am a retired Pennsylvania state trooper and a retired Lake County (FL) sheriff's deputy. The circumstances of your death are as horrendous as any situation involving an officer shooting I am familiar with. I am in awe of the cooperation among agencies in the pursuit of your killer. I am certain that anyone who would dare slay a law officer doing his duty will be flushed down the gaping maw of hell. You have done your duty with honor and valor as a soldier of the law. You have the respect of every good law officer on the face of the planet. Peace be with you as you join the legion of law officers before you who have died in the line-of-duty. I am certain you will be received with open arms. Each of you has obeyed our Creator's greatest cammandment and I am certain that you will lock arms and march through the gates of Heaven. Well done, deputy...well done. Cpl. Ralph D. Fiorenza (Ret.) Pennsylvania State Police 2008-07-12
I never knew you and only became aware of your sacrifice a few weeks ago, but I feel as if I know you through all the reflections that I've just read. Thank you for your service and God bless you. Deputy Todd Moose Catawba Co. SO 2008-06-30

Joey,
On the 11th anniversary of your death we have decided to up the donations being made in your memory by Made In Multiples to law enforcement. We donated $1000.00 to the ODMP for all their work to build this wonderful site to honor our fallen heroes. We are also going to continue to find other law enforcement organizations like NC COPS (Concerns of Police Survivors) to help. When I created Made In Multiples my goal was to be able to give back to law enforcement as I know how little they are paid, and how many depts can't afford the costly equipment to keep them safe. Joey, through all these donations you will be remembered and your story will be shared. The donations will all be made in memory of you and the ultimate sacrifice you made. We will never let you be forgotten. You made a difference in the lives of so many. Hopefully, more companies and individuals will come forward to make donations to wonderful sites like the ODMP. The ODMP has allowed me to feel like I have an internet connection to you, and has got me through the toughest of times. I will pray that others will see how important it is to give back to those organizations that help us heal, and move forward with our lives without forgetting those we love.

Hey buddy, I am currently in Afghanistan doing security contractor work for the US State Department. I left the SO a few months back to take this job. I thought about you on the 9th and told some of my teammates here about you. I can't believe it's been 11 years buddy. I feel better here knowing you're watching over me. I will never forget all the good times we had from kids on up into our adult lives. You have some wonderful parents who always hug me when they see me. They truly miss you and Jim and I know that by the affection they show me and the hurt in their eyes. I have a beautiful daughter now named Caroline who is 18 months old that I miss very much. She and April are doing fine though. I miss you bro but I know you're in a better place. Brian Cockfield Florence County Sheriff's Office 2008-04-14

You would be so proud. Today the whole family decorated the big Oak tree in the front yard with LED Blue Lights. We did this in honor of you and all the law enforcements officers who made in the Ultimate Sacrifice, and the ones who still serve and protect our country today. I got the whole neighborhood involved and now the homes are lighting up with Blue Lights. It makes me so proud to know you are still remembered by so many. My neighbors in Charlotte never had the chance to meet you, but they have been so supportive of Project Blue Light. I know you are on your cloud in heaven smiling down. Rest in Peace for you will never be forgotten!

JOEY,
I WAS ONLY 11 WHEN YOU DIED, BUT I REMEMBER THE DAY THAT IT ALL HAPPENED. MY DADDY WAS SO UPSET...THAT WAS THE FIRST TIME THAT I HAD EVER SEEN HIM CRY. HE LOVES YOU AND RESPECTS YOU MORE THAN EVER AND I DO TOO BECAUSE OF THE WAY THAT HE TELLS US ABOUT YOU AND HIM BEING SUCH GOOD FRIENDS. HE PUT IN HIS RESIGNATION RIGHT BEFORE YOU WERE KILLED AND AFTER THAT HAPPENED HE STILL WISHES TO THIS DAY THAT HE WAS STILL WORKING AT THE FCSO. IT AMAZES ME BECAUSE ALL MY LIFE I'VE HEARD OF YOU AND NOW THAT I'M ENGAGED TO JAY STEELE...YOU ARE MORE REAL TO ME THAN ANYTHING BECAUSE JAY LOOKS UP TO YOU STILL. I PRAY JOEY THAT YOU WILL BE WITH ME AND JAY AS WE START OUR LIVES TOGETHER AND THAT WE WILL ALWAYS SHOW A LITTLE OF YOU IN OUR LIVES EVERYDAY. STACEY TANNER, JOHNSONVILLE DAUGHTER OF DAVID TANNER, FIANCE' OF JAY STEELE 2007-11-08
Joe,
Words don't reflect the sacrifice you made. I just hope you see the love that you have from others you touched. Your memory will always be alive through those you have touched and through them the torch remains lit. Be that guardian angel that I know you are to those kids. And I am sure you are so much more.....Thank you brother...for all that you have done...

Joey, It's been 10 years and it seems like yesterday. I speak with your parents from time to time and your Dad always seems to keep me informed of the new things that are going on in the family, like how Jim's kids are growing up big and strong just like their Daddy and Uncle Joey, you have wonderful parents Joey and they love you so much. I just wanted to say that my life was truly blessed to have known you and just wanted you to know you will always be remembered and missed. Thanks for everything Joey, especially the laughs you and Marion gave me!! Family Friend Friend 2007-09-20

My thoughts and prayers are with Deputy Rodgers and his family. God holds a special place in heaven for the men and women that protect our families, that place themselves between the good and evil in this world. +Rest Now My Brother For You Have Earned It,We Will Take The Watch From Here.+
I never dreamed it would be me My name for all eternity Recorded here at this hallowed place Alas, my name, no more my face
"In the line of duty" I hear them say My family now the price will pay My folded flag stained with their tears We only had those few short years
The badge no longer on my chest I sleep now in eternal rest My sword I pass to those behind And pray they keep this thought in mind
I never dreamed it would be me And with heavy heart and bended knee I ask for all here from the past Dear God, let my name be the last (Author unknown)
+God bless all the men and women in blue.+ Deputy Sheriff Alan Lazarus #3820 Cook County Sheriff's Department, Cook County IL. 2007-08-17
