On behalf of my family and myself I would like to offer our gratitude to all those over the past 42 years have expressed their thoughts, prayers, and condolences, and who have strived to keep the memories of George and Ted alive. Thanks also to everyone who participated in the search after George and Ted were reported "missing" on June 17th 1967. My Father and Mother and myself witnessed firsthand the efforts of all those who participated in the search since we had flown to the Temecula area to "wait" (like everyone else in the country) for what we hoped and prayed was going to be a joyful reunion with my brother George and Ted. Through the tireless work of a some very special people, what was at first their own personal vision many years ago, became a dream and now a reality. The renaming of the Murrieta Station as the Theodore L. Newton and George F. Azrak Border Patrol Station will serve as evidence of the culmination of 85 years of service provided by the U.S. Border Patrol in the Temecula Valley. The legacy of those who came before and those who fell in the line of duty will never be forgotten.

As I look at the faces of the men and women here, I see the faces of my co-workers. I can imagine each of them shooting the bull and swapping war stories at choir practice as the meat sizzles on the grill. I see them laughing, pranking and teasing their fellow agents, as we often do when we relieve stress. I wish that each of them were still here to share the good times.

And I feel compelled to look at each of the faces here and remember…to remember that each of them made the ultimate sacrifice in service to their country and we should NEVER forget them or their service.

Too often the sacrifices of those who serve our country are overlooked or casually dismissed by the very public they served so selflessly. But WE should never forget them…each and every one of them. May they each rest in peace eternally in God’s loving embrace.

We offer our heartfelt sympathy to the family, friends and colleagues of Inspector Azrak and we honor his distinguished service to the cause of justice and peace. Sadly, our nation has lost one of its finest citizens, a community has lost a friend and protector, and a family has lost an example of character and courage who they will love and respect forever. Today, because of the sacrifice Inspector Azrak has made, the house of freedom is stronger, sturdier, and more secure.

To the family and friends of Inspector Azrak, I would like you to know that a lot of people pray for you, and my hope is that their prayers will give you the strength necessary to move on. Just as you were always with him when he walked the beat or patrolled the streets, know that he will always be with you - wherever you may be. In the days to follow, may you be strengthened by the fact that Inspector Azrak is a man distinguished by exceptional courage and will always be admired for his brave deeds and noble qualities. You, your family and your sacrifice will never be forgotten.

Thank you for your service and sacrifice and may you keep safe the borders of paradise in peace for eternity. It is truly a horrible injustice against you, your family and fellow agents/officers and our nation that these cold-blooded murderers are set free while your life and the life of Inspector Newton were cut short by cowards. I trust that the border patrol agents of Heaven will witness due justice meted out...RIP brother

I was involved in the search for Azrak and Newton in the area of Oak Grove,CA east of Temecula on the morning they were found to be missing from their checkpoint. I remember when and where their bodies were found and the grief that touched us all. Although I never actually met Ted Azrak, I served 8 years working out of the Temecula Station and performed the same traffic check duties on highway 79 where he and Newton were kidnapped and killed. I will always remember these two young Officers who died in the line of duty just as their careers were beginning. God Bless them.
