Where the Lions Rest
In honor of those whose names grace the walls of the National Law Enforcement Officer's Memorial
Of all the monuments engraved in stone there is one that comes very close to home A simple stone wall honoring some of America's best on a piece of sacred ground where the lion's rest.
A sister a brother, a husband or wife, honoreed here because they gave their life. Having passed the warriors final test, on a piece of sacred ground, where the lions rest.
Behind a shield taking a stand, to bring justice and order to our blessed land. A brave heart once beat in their breast, on a piece of sacred ground, where the lions rest.
Now they walk a quieter beat, where evil has already seen its defeat May they spend eternity among the blessed, on a piece of sacred ground, where the lions rest. Sgt. Oscar R. Thomasson Sedgwick County Sheriff's Office 2009-01-29
YOU ARE REMEMBERED TODAY AND THANK YOU SIR FOR YOUR SERVICE VANDENBERGHE MANCHESTER, NH 2008-04-09
The following is a letter sent to Chicago City Councilwoman Madeline Haithcock who has sponsored an ordinance to name a city street "in honor" of a former chairman of the Black Panthers who advocated murdering police officers.

King County, in Seattle Washington just announced today that they will adorn all county seals, flags, papers, patches and badges with the image of Martin Luther King... I personally am proud to wear the image of my childhood "HERO" on my uniform and badge.
I am however shocked and appauled that you sponsored an ordinance to name a city street "in honor" of a former chairman of the Black Panthers who advocated murdering police officers. Members of the radical group were responsbible for the murders of 5 law enforcement officers, including 2 Chicago officers during his chairmanship.
I can think of the families of the murdered officers (Frank Rappaport ~ John Gilhooly ~ Glenn Smith ~ Kenneth Patrick ~ Ricky Kinchen), and how horrified they might feel to see this supposed honor. Please think of "all" involved before moving on with this idea. Officer Glenn R. McGloughlin King County Department of Adult and Juvenile Detention 2006-03-08
Brother Thomasson,
May the road rise up to meet you, May the wind be always at your back, May the sun shine warm upon your face, And the rains fall soft upon your fields, And until we meet again, May God hold you in the palm of His hand.
Respectfully, You’re Brothers in Blue

It truely disturbes me that Officer Thomasson's agency and community have failed to honor his sacrifice. As you can see Charles, others of us have not forgotten you. Rest easy my brother. With brotherly love and utmost respect, Jim Crotty (Former Richmond, VA Police Officer.) Jim Crotty, Special Agent (Ret.) ATF Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco & Firearms 2004-11-04

Each day I try to read the ODMP. Today I read your story. Any officer who dies in the line of duty will always be remembered for his sacrifice. You died a hero. Rest in peace Officer Thomasson. Captain Robert W Cannon, Ret. Vermilion Co, Il. Sheriff's Dept. 2004-06-04
In honor of Officer Thomasson...... You are not forgotten.... Offricer Richmond Police Department (VA) 2004-03-10
I agree with a previous writer who wrote “No officer’s death should be without reflection.” It is an honor to be the first to leave a reflection in your memory. May the memory of your service, heroism and sacrifice remain forever. You served us well......RIP brother. Trooper Pennsylvania State Police
