Rest in Peace, Sergeant Arthur. Your sacrifice is not forgotten.

Officer 11169

2009-10-23

Deputy Arthur, you were my favorite teacher, and I loved your class so much, I took it in junior high and high school. You were always so inspiring to me. I used to love to hear you speak about your cases. I still remember many of them, and have told them to my children. You will always live on in the hearts of all the students you inspired.

George, time passes but the memories linger on. Your frantic calls for assistance, and your fight for survival. You taught us all to hang tough. At FPK, Lynwood and Temple I always remembered your strong will to survive, your generous welcoming of new men and women into the fold. May God have you in your proper place, as you live on in our memories. RIP

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 24th anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered. Rest In Peace.

I am glad that your murder was finally solved, though a bit shocked to learn the perpetrator's identity.

I still have my copy of that LASD training tape depicting You and Your partner's will to survive when vastly outnumbered / outgunned. When LAPD finally announced what many of us had already suspected, I was hoping to one day hear from his lips why. I received no solace when the FBI announced that they had found his remains.

You and Michael Edwards(LAPD) will never be forgotten.

LAPD 14 years staying with this crime and solving it, thank you for never giving up. Just like Sergeant's memory, it will never be given up.

"The Badge"
He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.
He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.
Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.
He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.
His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.
He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.
And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.
But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.
Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.
Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.
So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.
In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.
Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

George,
We worked together in "Juvenile Files" at FPK (not proper to call it a gang unit then, remember?).....A good cop. A good man. You made me a better cop. I'll remember you always.

You were an outstanding Sgt when I was assaigned to MCJ. You introduced me to the sheriff's dept and gave me advice that I still use 22 years later. I'm thankful for our time together.

I want others to know what this MAN did for others outside of law enforcement. George was a "mans man" in the most gentle and caring way. I had the pleasure to be in his high school "student and the law" class. This man was more of an example to me in just one hour a day than any other man in my life. I still am inspired by him almost daily. He was always willing to help with mock interviews and advice on how to get into the law enforcement line of work. I got on with SBSO on my first attempt!!! I always felt George would have been proud.

Thank you is not enough but will have to do for now. See you on the other side. God blessed ME by knowing you.

George,

The 20 yr anniversary of your death resently past on June 1st, 2005. Your memory still lives within the Men's Central Jail, and your plaque is still hanging in the gym. I have written an article about you in the August, 2005 issue of the Star News magazine so others can learn about what a great guy you were. I enjoyed having you as my supervisor in the jail when I was a young deputy. The day you died is a day I will never forget. It was not only a huge loss for the deputies at the jail, but for the entire department. I am glad the case was solved so you can rest in peace.

I saw this saying on a t-shirt for another fallen officer, and it fits here as well:

Step forward now Policeman,
You've done your burdens well.
Come walk a beat on heavens street,
You've done your time in hell.

God bless George.

The Sheriff's Department never forgets one of its own. The memories may dim but the names live on. George, the long journey of finding your killer is over. God will take care of the rest.

AS JUNE APPROACHES EACH YEAR, I THINK ABOUT OUR LOSS OF A GREAT COP. I THINK ABOUT THE THOSE WHO HAVE RETIRED FROM THE DEPARTMENT WHO KNEW YOU AND THOSE WHO HAVE PROMOTED SELFISHLY - ONLY TO WONDER HOW FAR YOU WOULD HAVE MADE IT. YOUR LEGACY AND THE "WILL TO SURVIVE" STILL REMAIN A PART OF MY DAILY LIFE. I HOPE THE FISH ARE STILL BITING AND THE WEATHER'S BETTER EVERYDAY. AFTER ALL, YOU DESERVED A BETTER JOURNEY AFTER YOUR 14 YEARS OF WONDERING. KEEP YOUR GRIN FROM EAR TO EAR AND KEEP US SAFE FROM OTHERS EVIL WAYS.

We were sworn in on the same day, we worked together, fished together, we were good friends. Through all those years I met and worked with hundreds of individuals, but George was one of the few that stood out. After all these years, I can't imagine why anyone would want to disturb the memory of this cop's cop. He stood head and shoulders above the rest. He was a good man, he had integrity and he was my friend.

REST IN PEACE GEORGE. YOUR MEMORIES AND THE "TRUE CIRCUMSTANCES" SURROUNDING YOUR UNTIMELY DEATH AND ALL OF THOSE INVOLVED, SURFACE IN THE YEARS TO COME. YOUR FAMILY AND THOSE WHO KNEW YOU BEST TRULY MISS YOU. YOU WILL NOT BE FORGOTTEN!
