Has been to long! Anyway I was amazed to learn that Mr Taylor lost his life on September 11. His immediate family, Glenda, Keith, Anthony, and of course Pamela were very good to me and will always be remembered in my daily thoughts and prayers! Best wishes Roger D. Head! "The Badge"
He starts his shift each day To respond to calls unknown. He drives a marked patrol car. A police officer he is known.
He's paid by the citizens' taxes To make it safe on the streets. But he usually has a second job 'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.
Now he doesn't know a holiday 'Cause he works all year round. And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive At his home he cannot be found.
He's cursed and assaulted often, The one whos blood runs blue. He seldom ever gets a thanks, To some he's just a fool.
His friends are always other cops 'Cause people just don't understand That underneath his badge and gun, He's just another man.
He knows there might not be a tomorrow In this world of drugs and crime. And he gets so mad at the court system 'Cause the crooks don't get any time.
And each day when he leaves for work, He prays to God above. Please bring me home after my shift So I can see the ones I love.
But tonight he stops a speeding car, He's alone down this ole' highway. It's just a little traffic infraction. He does it everyday.
Well, he walks up to the driver's window, And his badge is shining bright. He asked the guy for a driver's license, When a shot rang through the night.
Yes, the bullet hit its mark, Striking the officer in the chest. But the Department's budget didn't buy Each officer a bullet-proof vest.
So he lay on the ground bleeding. His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red. And briefly he thought of his loved ones 'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.
In the news they told the story Of how this officer had died. And some who listened cared less, But those who loved him cried.
Well, they buried him in uniform With his badge pinned on his chest. He even had his revolver, He died doing his best.

and Deputy Taylor said,
This is my shield, I bear it before me into battle, but it is not mine alone. It protects my brother on my left. It protects my county. I will never let my brother out of it's shadow nor my county out of it's shelder. I will die with my shield before me facing the enemy.
Remember those who have gone before us, because no one dies unless they are forgotten. Deputy Taylor, you did not lose your life, you gave it in service to the citizens of Towns County and the state of Georgia. A TRUE HERO Detective E. B. Smith Red Springs Police Department,N.C. 2007-03-10

Dear Uncle James, Today its been 25 years since your death. I went to a family reunion this weekend and I told Anthony about this site. He was going to tell Keith, Pam and Aunt Glenda. I hope others leave some reflections here so you will know just how much you are missed. And we as a family can share our memories of you. I know for my daddy this day every year is so hard for him. Anthony had said this weekend that people say it gets easier, but it never really does. I know there are some many mile stones in your kids life where they miss you so much. I have faith and know that you are in heaven watching over them and that you walk with them daily. God Bless you Uncle James and we miss you everyday! Robin McLendon Neice 2006-09-11
Dear Taylor Family -- On this day while much of the nation is reflecting on the fifth anniversary of 9/11, we wanted you to know that we are also grateful for your loved one and his work in Georgia law enforcement. My wife and I are former GBI Agents and worked undercover for many years from Rabun Gap to Tybee Light assisting many Sheriff's and Chief's with drug problems in their towns and cities. We met many outstanding local law enforcement officers while doing this work for the GBI and deeply appreciated their concern for our safety as we conducted our investigations. God Bless the Taylor family and all law enforcement personnel serving in the Great State of Georgia as well as their peers in other public safety agencies. God Bless our men and women in the military working to keep all of us safe and out of harm's way. We deeply appreciate the work of Deputy Taylor. Love, Walt, Len, Jimmy, Christopher, Patrick and Nicholas Brooks of Lawrenceville, Georgia (retired GBI) SAC Walt Brooks Georgia Bureau of Investigation 2006-09-11
James was my uncle and I learned of this website only after a young officer who was a family friend lost her life in a training accident and I did a search for my uncle. James a funny and great man. He loved his family and always made sure we had a yearly reunion camping in the woods in Hiawassee GA. Life has not been the same since James left us. We still miss him today as much as ever. We find confort in knowing that we will see James again someday. Until then we must live life as James did, fully and with passion. Robin McLendon Neice 2006-08-21
