Sgt. Stiner,
On today, the 42nd anniversary of your death I would just like to say thank you for your service and sacrifice for the citizens of the state of Arizona. And to your family and loved ones, I wish to extend my deepest sympathy. There is no tougher job in Law Enforcement than that of a Corrections Officer.

The man who killed Sergeant Stiner was later housed in a minimum security prison in Florence, AZ and that man's three sons broke him out of prison along with another murderer in 1977. The gang of five went on a cross county crime spree killing several people including a family of five and a young toddler. They were eventually caught at a roadblock near Casa Grande and shootout - but the man who shot Sgt. Stiner escaped into the desert but later died of exposure. Several of us sat for days in surveillance on homes associated with the gang hoping to catch them before they did more damage.

It only goes to demonstrate the danger faced by prison guards as they do their everyday duty guarding and transporting some of America's most evil villians. Thank God we have folks like Sergeant Stiner who protect us with that fine blue line. His duty should be honored.
