Officer Smith, I couldn't help being moved by your heroism. Although you gave your life you did so to protect us all by killig both of the suspects. I want to honor you sir by promising that you will never be forgotten. I also think of your example in my own life while at work and only hope that I will act with the same dedication and bravery if I am ever faced with such a situation. Thank you for your service sir.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 53rd anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

I also salute your service to our country as a Marine which has personally made me feel the circumstances of your death were even more reprehensibe. Semper Fi.

Officer Smith,

I've read many reflections, but your story in particular touched me greatly. Serving your country the way you did both in military and civilian life, and ultimately losing your life while in the performance of your sworn duties, leads me to tell you thank you very much for your unselfish service. To be able to return fire like you did demonstrates to me you were a real man and hero.
