Craig:
I just stopped by to say hi, and you were in my prayers this day. I pass the area you were taken from us many times and think of you often. Save a place for me.

ps If you see my brother in law Tpr Mac Struble let him know Tpr Mike Cook and I had a cold one for him. OK more than one. John Conaty Captain (retired) Ingham County sheriff Office 2009-01-19
Craig and I served together as 1st Div. MP's in Germany, as roommates and squad leaders. He way a great Police Officer and never one to let his guard down, thats what made it so hard to believe when I received the telephone call the night he was shot. I still talk to others about him and his death so that others will keep in mine how serious police work is. Our mutual friend, Dan Beseth, also a 1st Div MP named his son after Craig. Retired Maine Trooper, Dean Knight Deputy Marshal, Maine 2008-10-31

"The Badge" He starts his shift each day To respond to calls unknown. He drives a marked patrol car. A police officer he is known. He's paid by the citizens' taxes To make it safe on the streets. But he usually has a second job 'Cause a waitress has his salary beat. Now he doesn't know a holiday 'Cause he works all year round. And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive At his home he cannot be found. He's cursed and assaulted often, The one whos blood runs blue. He seldom ever gets a thanks, To some he's just a fool. His friends are always other cops 'Cause people just don't understand That underneath his badge and gun, He's just another man. He knows there might not be a tomorrow In this world of drugs and crime. And he gets so mad at the court system 'Cause the crooks don't get any time. And each day when he leaves for work, He prays to God above. Please bring me home after my shift So I can see the ones I love. But tonight he stops a speeding car, He's alone down this ole' highway. It's just a little traffic infraction. He does it everyday. Well, he walks up to the driver's window, And his badge is shining bright. He asked the guy for a driver's license, When a shot rang through the night. Yes, the bullet hit its mark, Striking the officer in the chest. But the Department's budget didn't buy Each officer a bullet-proof vest. So he lay on the ground bleeding. His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red. And briefly he thought of his loved ones 'Cause in a moment the officer was dead. In the news they told the story Of how this officer had died. And some who listened cared less, But those who loved him cried. Well, they buried him in uniform With his badge pinned on his chest. He even had his revolver, He died doing his best. Peter came to see me after your death and we remembered all of the old times in Germany. It was a sad occasion but the memories were all joyful and humerous. We speak of you still when we get together...the last time at the wedding of my daughter. I am sorry we could not get together after our mutual discharges from the US Army.

I met Trooper Scott in Huron County when I was only 16 or 17 years old. He responded to an assault complaint where I was the victim. He and his partner took the complaint, and made a positive impact upon me which I believe helped me decide that police work was what I wanted to pursue. I was a very young officer at the time I heard Trooper Scott was murdered. He was a no nonsense kind of guy when it came to his job. You have not been forgotten and will always be remembered. God Bless you and your family! Assistant Chief Jeff Gettel Boyne City P.D. 2004-09-18
I remember Tpr. Scott well, I was talking with him just about a half an hour prior to him being shot. He was a great Officer and he was a great person. He will aways be missed by his family and his family of police officers. Former Chief Allen A. Hempstead at the time, Leslie Police Dept. 2004-04-02
