You are remembered today and thank you Sir for your service VANDENBERGHE Prior to enlisting in the MSP several years ago, I cut grass as a college student at the Holy Cross cemetery where you are laid to rest. One of the many experiences that cemented my decision to become a State Trooper was something that I witnessed at your grave one day. As I was working sometime around Memorial Day, I noticed a blue goose driving around the grounds. Eventually, the Troopers pulled up along side of me and asked if I could point out where your grave was. Some time before that day, I had already taken notice of the marker on your grave that states, "Trooper John Ryan - Died of injuries while on duty". I was able to immediately direct the Troopers to your grave and watched them place a small Michigan flag in the ground, come to full attention, salute you, and thank you for your service and sacrifice. I was profoundly effected by this tremendous show of respect and reverence. A year or two later, I also became a MSP Trooper - and I can tell you that your sacrifice is still remembered by the present day Troops. Trooper Ryan, I salute you. RIP. Trooper Dad, Linda Ryan Fortin Even though it has been 56 years since your passing you are still remembered and honored by your fellow Troopers in the Michigan State Police. Trooper Trooper Ryan, thank you for your service to your state. Your dedication shall never be forgotten. Rest in peace. A citizen 06/06/04 Captain Robert W Cannon, Ret.
