"The Badge"
He starts his shift each day To respond to calls unknown. He drives a marked patrol car. A police officer he is known.
He's paid by the citizens' taxes To make it safe on the streets. But he usually has a second job 'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.
Now he doesn't know a holiday 'Cause he works all year round. And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive At his home he cannot be found.
He's cursed and assaulted often, The one whos blood runs blue. He seldom ever gets a thanks, To some he's just a fool.
His friends are always other cops 'Cause people just don't understand That underneath his badge and gun, He's just another man.
He knows there might not be a tomorrow In this world of drugs and crime. And he gets so mad at the court system 'Cause the crooks don't get any time.
And each day when he leaves for work, He prays to God above. Please bring me home after my shift So I can see the ones I love.
But tonight he stops a speeding car, He's alone down this ole' highway. It's just a little traffic infraction. He does it everyday.
Well, he walks up to the driver's window, And his badge is shining bright. He asked the guy for a driver's license, When a shot rang through the night.
Yes, the bullet hit its mark, Striking the officer in the chest. But the Department's budget didn't buy Each officer a bullet-proof vest.
So he lay on the ground bleeding. His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red. And briefly he thought of his loved ones 'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.
In the news they told the story Of how this officer had died. And some who listened cared less, But those who loved him cried.
Well, they buried him in uniform With his badge pinned on his chest. He even had his revolver, He died doing his best.

My wife (Dee) and I think of Wayne and Michelle often, we last saw you both weeks before the accident. We served with Wayne at the 259th MP Company and he bought his first motorcycle from Dee at White Sands. You are missed and we hope Michelle is well!

I am very sad too learn you are not alive anymore my friend I enjoyed both you and your wifes company very much. I remember our incredible motorcycle journey to Carlsbad Caverns one day when we raced a storm front all the way back from White City, I ran full out and beat the storm and waited for you in Alamagordo to catch up. Wayne drove safely and ended up getting doused along with his wife. Wayne had a laudable and wonderful patter to his conversations and I was and will always be very lucky to have known him both professionally and personally! Brother Allison,
May the road rise up to meet you, May the wind be always at your back, May the sun shine warm upon your face, And the rains fall soft upon your fields, And until we meet again, May God hold you in the palm of His hand.
Respectfully, You’re Brothers in Blue

Wayne,
I discovered this memorial to you today. I was extremely saddened to hear what happened to you. I served with you in the 259th Military Police Company, at White Sands Missile Range, NM during 1984-1985. You were hired by the NMSP from the Army, we released you early so you could attend the academy. You were a great soldier and friend; I wish I had known you and Michelle better. I was telephonically interviewed by the NMSP Recruiter when you were under consideration for that job. But you knew that because you were standing next to me when I was talking to him. Like the previous writer I’m surprised by the lack of postings about you. The reason in not because you weren’t loved and respected by everyone that ever knew you, it is because this website is difficult to find (I found it by chance). Michelle if you see this message I last saw you and Wayne in the summer of 1986. He and you came to WSMR one afternoon after Wayne had been hired by the NMSP. I was standing in front of the MP station, we all talked for a few minutes then you two left and went on to visit other people on the installation. I’m shocked at your loss, Wayne will never be forgotten. Please feel free to contact me anytime.

I always find it a bit sad to see a name w/out many reflections. The older the death, the fewer the posts. I agree with the previous person, God Bless You.

God bless, sir. You are not forgotten. Never. Deputy M. Moore Warren County S.O. (OH)
