Rest in Peace, Officer Roosevelt. Your sacrifice is not forgotten. Officer 11169 Although I was only 5 years old when you gave your life, you will never be forgotten Bill Mann, Civilian Been many years since you left us brother but you know The Blue and Gold NEVER forgets our own !!.." RATHER THAN SWERVE FROM THE PATH OF DUTY" is what you were all about. Keep resting easy highwayman !! DB You are a true hero to us all. God bless you for your service and sacrifice. DE My stepdad Erwin Walker was the man who shot and killed Loren Roosevelt. Officer Roosevelt was shot 9 times but continued to pursue Erwin Walker until he crashed his patrol car. On his deathbed he was able to say goodbye to his wife and asked if they had caught the suspect. A movie was later made about the incident as well as the crime spree of murder and robbery by Erwin Walker entitled "He Walks by Night" This film is still popular today as "film noir". Erwin Walker was sentenced to death but was later aquited by reason of insanity. He was released in the 1970's on a technicality. This was a huge case in The State of California for many years. Ironicly MY FATHER was a California Highway Patrolmen as well. I write this reflection as a tribute to Officer Roosevelt. Officer Roosevelt symoblizes the selfless giving that every fallen officer makes without any gaurantee that justice will be done for him. Officer Roosevelt truly gave all without closure or justice. For that I give him my love and respect and my sincerest apologizes for what Erwin Walker has done to he and his family.
04/14/04 Captain Robert W Cannon, Ret. Thank you sir for protecting each of us. Thank you for your service to all and standing in honor of the position you walked each day your badge went on.
