Sheriff Mizell, You'll be happy to know we have records that shows it went 95 yrs. before another Orange County Officer was slain. That Officer was my Dad, Orange County Deputy Sheriff Bobby L. Corley Sr. on August 8, 1965.
A drunk driver, driving on the wrong side of a four lane road, took my Fathers life. The last honorable action my Father performed was to save the life of a Cadet Deputy riding in the passenger's seat that night by making a sharp right vere before impact so Deputy Corley would take the impact and hopefully save the life of the 18 yr old Cadet. The Cadet's life was saved without a scratch but my Father lived only moments after arriving at the local hospital from collapsed lungs received in the accident.
Sheriff Mizell, Dad lived up to your standards and protected as many as possible before his end of shift. He was well liked in Orange County and also by his fellow Deputies. His final ride was over a mile long of police cars not only from Orange County, but one from every Sheriff's Department from the State of Florida. "Dad may you rest in peace!"
Bobby L. Corley Jr.
Son to slain Deputy Bobby L. Corley Sr.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 139th anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.
Rest In Peace.
