I’ll never forget that morning or thereafter. Phil was such a gentle soul and a kind man. We used to meet for food at the Roy Roger’s in 4 Corners often. Policies changed after his death to helped to ensure officers safety in the future. We will never forget!

Philip was the kind of person that represents the ideal police person. He was intelligent, empathetic, kind, and even handed, dealing with others. I can only think of Billy Joel's song: "Only the good die young". This was a loss for everybody.

Hey Phil, again I write to you to thank you for all the help you gave me as a new officer. All the times we met at Roy Rogers in Four Corners for a late night meal, you were a guiding light and a solid officer. You and I shared the same beat. I remember that night/ day of the call at W Bell. I got there afterwards and saw the aftermath of murder. I know God opened His arms to you and your fellow security officer that day as you entered into the gated of heaven. We will never forget!!

Phil its been 40 years since that faithful day. I have flashbacks every time I drive by that place in White Oak.

I stopped by the Gate of Heaven today to pay my respects and I swear I heard your voice giving me some friendly advice on how to handle thing we see on the streets in front of Miles Glass of Piney Branch Road shortly before you were killed.

You were a great training officer and I never forgot your advice. You'll never know how much it changed my life. Thank you for all that you've done as an MCPD Officer as well as your Military Service.

Rest in peace my friend.

I was a college kid working nights at the High's Store across from the Silver Spring Metro. Phil was a regular, and he and his partner made a point of looking out for us. He clued us in quietly when he noticed customers carrying weapons and we knew that there was trouble about if we spotted his cruiser at closing time. He was a good man and a good officer and he is very much missed.

Fond remembrances working with you. You would notice things that didn't look just right and so often communicated that to us SAT Officers. Every so often leading to a solid arrest. I remember how professional you were and one of the safest cops I knew. Anyone you had contact with or just passing by made us all look honorable. A real icon! To this day you teach the new and seasoned through our training leaders. You're a Guardian Angel as result.

Scripture assures us Phil that, “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called children of God.” Matthew 5:9 ESV. I placed a flag at your marker.

Thanks for your military service and your Boy Scout service as well as your tour with MCPD.

I still think of you and your great advice that you gave us "new guys" on the street. You truly were one of the good guys.

Mitch, nope, that vile scum waste of carbon (James A. Calhoun, he's since added "-El" to the end of it) is still stealing the oxygen from people worthy of its inhalation. He has filed multiple appeals and lawsuits against the state, prisons, guards, wardens, etc., all have been denied.

the security employee who was killed along with officer Mets was my good friend Dave Myers. He was adored by everyone. I also worked at the security company. Dave was filling in for the guy who normally worked that shift.

One of the men convicted was a life long criminal named Calhoun. Does anyone know if the scumbag died in prison yet?

Sad to learn Phil's murder, while looking up an old friend from Boy Scouts. Always a class guy.

Phil,
I broke you in when you were still a rookie, and had things turned in your favor I would have been honored to have been your brother-in-law. You were compassionate, and the kind of person I hoped to be.

Your picture still hangs on my dresser mirror.....brother you may be gone, but you're never forgotten. I miss you brother.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the thirty-first anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered.

I pray for solace for all those that love and remember you for I know both the pain and pride are forever. Your family is in my heart's embrace. Thanks to your friends for sharing their memories and devotion to you through their reflections.

Rest In Peace.
