Reflections for Deputy William E. Robinson, IV

I heard stories about you but we never met. We're second cousins and I was a senior in high school when this horrible thing happened to you. I'm 45 and live in Atlanta with my wife and 2 kids and I think about you more than you know. You paid the ultimate price to keep us safe. Rest in peace and may I be privileged enough to know you in the next life.

Although I did not know you personally, it was an honor to wear your badge upon my uniform each day as a I served the people of Baldwin County. May your sacrifice and the sacrifice of your family be a constant reminder to those that wear the badge that each moment is a gift, and that these moments should be lived to their fullest.

21 years ago, I became friends with Will when I worked as a nurse in the ER at Oconee Regional. I was on duty the night Will was brought in. To this day, Will's injury and death has been the hardest thing I have ever had to deal with as a nurse. I will always remember Will's smile and sense of humor, and his professionalism as a deputy whenever we needed law enforcement assistance in the ER. He is missed and I will never forget.

ok...tonight, early hours of tomorrow morning...20 years and it sometimes feels like yesterday. The hole is still there, the loss is still felt.
We push forward because we know you expect it. We live and experience all the things you missed and that you wanted. We do them for you and because of you.

William, I just found all the clippings sent to me, when you had been tragically shot down a few weeks after my wedding. I looked at those tonight and wept. You were in the church youth group, you looked up to all of us, and we then found a way to look up to you as you began to serve our community. I have thought of you very often these past two decades. The world is not the same. I know Milledgeville grieves for you, too, as does your family.

When ha shall die,
Take him and cut him out in little stars,
And he will make the face of heaven so fine
That all the world will be in love with night,
And pay no worship to the garnish sun.

Stop all the clocks, cut off the telephone,
Prevent the dog from barking with a juicy bone,
Silence the pianos and with muffled drum . . .
let the mourners come.
Let airplanes circle moaring overhead
Scribbling on the sky the meassage He Is Dead,
Put crepe bows round the necks of the public doves,
Let the traffic policemen wear black cotton gloves.
He was our North, our South, our East and West,
Working week and Sunday rest,
noon, and midnight, talk and song;
We thought that love would last for ever: we were wrong.
The stars are not wanted now: put out every one;
Pack up the moon and dismantle the sun:
Pour away the ocean and sweep up the wood.
Let out of a senseless tragedy come good.

You and my father were best friends for your entire lives and you were killed before my mother had me, but your legacy lives on as my father has told me countless stories of you. You are so brave and are missed everyday.
God bless.

I just want to express my condolences to the family of this fine officer. I was glad to see that coward executed for his crime. It angers me that so much effort was put into keeping that animal from being executed. I know officer Robinson's family will never forget him and his legacy will always live on. From what others wrote it sounded like he loved his job and made an impact on everyone he came in contact. Don't mourn his loss but rather celebrate a great officer and strive to make him proud of you. May god bless his family and may he rest in peace.

To Will's family:
We did not know Will. But we knew Will by other names.
We did not feel your pain, but we've felt our own.

No matter the badge, patch or jurisdiction;
No matter if in uniform or plain clothes;
No matter if active duty or retired;
We stand with you, just as our lost now stand with Will.

Please know that even after all these years, you are not forgotten. Will is not forgotten and you do not stand alone.
