Reflections for Sheriff Enos L. "Bud" McCracken

Although I never met you, I have heard your story all my life. Thank you for protecting, and thank you for your family. You are my great grandfather. Your oldest daughter was my grandmother. Your wife Ella was left with 8 children but had help from extended family in the area. Your youngest child Jessie (born 2 days before you were shot) and your son Paul died a few years later in 1918 within days of each other, from influenza. They were 10 and 17. I was around the remaining six for many years as I grew up on the same farm as grandma.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the one hundred and first anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered. Rest In Peace.

You left behind such a large family. I hope the community helped take care of them. The circumstances of your death were very sad, but I am glad you got to hold your last child and that you were with that baby for at least two days.
