Officer Martin,
On today, the 75th anniversary of your death I would just like to say thank you for your service and sacrifice-not just as a Law Enforcement Officer but for our Country as well when you served with the USN during World War II. And to your Family and loved ones, I wish to extend my deepest sympathy.

This is the only letter I will ever write to my Grandfather John. We miss you, my older brother was given your name, but I was given your face and the reflection is a daily reminder of what was taken from our family. I turned 33 this year, my daughter Jazlyn Madlyn Martin turned 6 and my son...Jace Cagan Martin, turned 2. The same age my father was when we lost you...I can't imagine how my Grandmother carried on, and how his children found there way to becoming the remarkable people and parents they did. But, like the Martin name and face...they also carried on and payed tribute to their lose and your sacrifice. I LOVE YOU Papa JC. I miss you Papa JC. THANK YOU Papa JC. Your Grandson... James

John C. Martin was my great uncle. I never met great-uncle John but heard stories of him from my dad. What a joy it has been to find this memorial of him. I wish my grandfather were alive to see it!! Thank you for honoring him.

To fully appreciate the heroes of the present, we must recognize our heroes of the past. Your heroism and service is honored today, the 66th anniversary year of your death. I am priviliged to be among the first to leave a tribute to you. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered. Rest In Peace.

On 08/07/2002, in Morgantown, Butler Co.,KY, a memorial will be dedicated in memory of Officer John C. Martin and KSP Det.Darrel V. Phelps,my father. Both Officers are from Morgantown. I beleive it should be recognized that on August 07, in both 1947 and 1981, that 2 Officers from the same home town paid the "ULTIMATE SACRIFICE".
