"Billy" was my mother's first cousin. I remember this well when it happened even though I was a child. It was devastating to his family as I remember especially how his parents expressed their grief. although they knew they would meet him in heaven again. It was also devastating to the community and all first-responders in shock at the funeral as he was gone way too soon. It was Billy's mercy and compassion that this murderer played on and lied to Billy as Billy wanted to see this man rehabilitated. Our family has always been one who believes in justice with mercy. Till we meet again in Glory, Billy and your parents, God Bless you for your service and sacrifice, and prayers for your closest relatives here on earth as well. Love you all, Melissa

I grew up in this town and as a young kid remember how it effected our small tight community. There was no reason or way for me to understand how this could happen.I had also lost a classmate to a hunting accident in this time period so my faith was put to a tremendous test....how could these unrelated and untimely deaths happen? What exactly was the big guys plan? Why? A lot of questions...

Chief Mantoth, was the first Police Chief that gave my father an opportunity to be a Police Officer, it was a huge event for him. My father was blind in one eye since birth and had been told he could never be Police Officer, Bill gave him the chance, the stipulation was "I don't ever want to hear you making excuses for not being able to do your job because of your eye, if you do, I'll let you go." My father was able to serve on several different departments and was involved in the Arrest of Charles Manson because of Chief Mantoth.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 42nd anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Chief Mantoth: Thank you for your ultimate sacrifice in upholding the law and protecting us. I'm sixty seven now but met you as I was soaping a window on halloween night at the age of thirteen years old I turned to leave and there you stood, you were so tall I was looking right into your gunbelt, I was scared, you looked down at me and said - You are going to clean that soap off her window RIGHT ? when ever I think of a good policeman I think of you. May you be in the loving arms of our heavenly father Jesus Christ.
