Hey Bob,

I miss you and think of you every day. In 1986, when we first met out there on Highway 101 while working the beat, I told you that I was a Marine and that I knew you were a Navy Seal. That was the day we started an awesome friendship. Every time we saw each other it usually started with Hey Jarhead, Hey Squid. You were by my side and had my back and I had your back. You gave me a great compliment one day when we were done with our abalone dive in the Pacific Ocean. You said " You know Rick, you are my favorite dive partner, you are the only one who can almost keep up with me" I was beaming like a little kid. Thank you for introducing me to a a great Manhattan. I went back into the U.S. Marine Reserves in 1989. In 1991 I went away for Desert Storm and you checked on my family on a regular basis. I responded to the 11-99 call in Covelo, Ca. on April 14th, 1995 and when I found out that it was you, my heart sank and then I got real angry. The anger has cooled down. But I still miss you.

Thank you for your service to your country and your department. Not everyone has what it takes to become a police officer or a Navy SEAL. You did both! A life cut too short, but a fulfilled life, I'm sure. Another one of your brothers from your agency joined you in heaven yesterday. Also cut down too soon at the same age that you were. Please show him the way.

I just left a reflection for another Brother lost in the lone of duty. It made me think of you, Bob. Every time I hear Dire Straits I think of Brothers in Arms and I think of the fun we had at school in Santa Rosa. I'll never forget you either. Rest in peace Deputy Davis.

..... I am just now finding out that my first cousin George Davis was killed as a police Deputy in Ukiah.
....I am stunned, shaken and saddened upon hearing the death of my cousin.
....I grew up with George back when we were little kids in San Francisco. I also use to scuba dive with George when he had a beach cabin on Imperial Beach just south of the Seal Base.
.....If anyone out there can put me in contact with his wife and four children or his Sister i would deeply appreciate it.
....I will forever miss you Cousin.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 17th anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered.

I pray for solace for all those who love and remember you for I know both the pain and pride are forever. Your family is in my heart's embrace today. Thanks to your friends for sharing their memories and devotion to you through their reflections.

Rest In Peace.

I was honored to serve with George while he and I were in the Navy stationed at Mare Island. It saddened me when I heard of his murder. My most memorable moment was George atching a fairly large striped bass. He received quite a surprised look from the Marine Gate Guard as he drove out the Main Gate at Mare Island with the bass draped across the front bumper of his VW.

Chief Davis (Deputy II),

Sorry for not writing sooner. I've been helping with your rememberance service each April 14th for a number of years now. One of the Sheriff's asked me to do it as "we" (you and me) were both Chief Petty Officers. He felt I could add a military touch to a somber moment. This is the 16th year since your passing. I want people who read this to know - You are missed and your friends love and respect you deeply. We (warriors) will meet again, in your memory, this 04.14.11 at 7PM at your Memorial Stone in front of the Willits Justice Center. "Gone but not forgotten." R.I.P.

Just wanted to tell you that I was looking through a scrap book and saw a picture taken at a pub in Santa Rosa, Ca. in the mid 1990's. If I remember right, it was taken at 11550 school. I remember that it was the night that you introduced me to the Manhattan!! I think of you every time I pour me a Manhattan! I remember you Bob. RIP Brother!

Marines and Navy SEALs are "Brothers-in-Blood."

As one who is also part Native American, I will always wonder what happen that night, regarding "Bear," who was later found "Not Guilty."

As I get older (and hopefully wiser), I have learned to leave some things in the hands of God.

Deputy Davis:

You served Your country as well as Mendocino County faithfully.

May Your Soul Rest - In - Peace.

"The Badge"
He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.
He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.
Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.
He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.
His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.
He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.
And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.
But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.
Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.
Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.
So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.
In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.
Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

To Deputy George Davis and all his loved ones:

On this the eleventh anniversary of your tragic death, please know that your memory is honored and revered today.

My heart goes out to your family members. You all remain in our thoughts and our prayers.

Reading the loving reflections about your beloved George gives us some understanding of what a kind and honorable man he was, and what he meant to his family and friends. I don't know if the creators of this web site ever envisioned how many of us would communicate with each other, and with our angels through these reflection pages. But we do and I find such comfort in it.

Deputy Davis, you rescued us, saved our possessions, our lives and our families. You are one of the rare heroes among us. You were always there for us in the most traumatic moments of our lives. No matter when we called, we just expected that you would come and do whatever it took to help us, and you always met our expectations. Your selflessness and dedication are awe-inspiring.

This world, this country, your community truly are better places because of you. To have lost you is a great tragedy, an irreplaceable, immeasurable loss for society. We are grateful for and to you, and honor you for all you did for us day in and day out whether you received a word of thanks or praise.

Rest in Peace, Deputy Davis. I am humbled by your valor, courage, and dedication.

This reflection is sent with the utmost respect for the many years of distinquished service Deputy Davis gave to his country through his military service, that he gave to his community and the citizens of California, and for the supreme sacrifice he and his family made on April 14, 1995.

Bob, when we met as classmates in the academy I was amazed with your energy, your drive and your will to win. You had already spent a lifetime in service to the nation, seen and done things most people can only dream of. But the call to duty was in your blood and you answered it yet again.

I was reminded of our all too brief acquaintance all those years ago on a recent visit to the memorial in Washington DC. I have an etching of your name as it is inscribed there, to match the one from the memorial in Sacramento I took when you were first enshrined there.

You devotion to duty and the sacrifice you made will never be forgotten.
