Reflections for Trooper Martin J. Kerins

Dear Granddad, as we do every year, we honor you on the anniversary of your ultimate sacrifice. I know you were looking down with such pride as you see the efforts by the New York State Troopers to keep the memories alive of those, like you, who have given the ultimate sacrifice. I am so honored to play a very small part in those efforts. A few years ago Trooper Diana Davis started what’s called the “Silent Partner” program. Every year I come over to the State Police Training Academy and I am honored to be able to hand out silent partner cards to the cadets in training. Those cards will be carried by the cadets, soon to be Troopers, for their career. A silent partner card with your photograph on the front and how you died on the back is carried by a number of Trooper‘s today. What an amazing idea to keep your memory alive. Again I cannot begin to tell you granddad the honor and the pride I take in being able to introduce you to the cadets that will carry your Silent Partner card for their entire career. Please keep your heavenly hand on their shoulders and guide them home safely every day of their career.

Your proud and loving grandson,

Marty Kerins Jr

Rest in peace always knowing that your service and sacrifice will never, ever be forgotten by your law enforcement brethren.

Dear granddad, as we do every year on the anniversary of your ultimate sacrifice we honor you. This year is a little different though. And I am sure that you are looking down in sadness as you see what’s happening to your brothers and sisters in law enforcement. This year the myopic moronicy of wokeness has reared its ignorant head and has called for the defunding of police. When in reality their goal is to devalue your profession. It angers me to my core to see how the heroes of law enforcement are being treated. It’s reminiscent of when our service heroes came home from Vietnam and how they were treated. A section of our country treated our military as if they were criminals. That section of our country decided to just lift their leg on their service and sacrifice. Demoralizing to law-enforcement today as it was to our Military back then.

I will remain a steadfast ambassador to your profession. I will continue to remind people of the character it takes to put on a bullet proof vest as well as strap on a firearm to go to work. Always in the back of their minds is the reality of whether or not they will come home that night. And today, the cellar dweller mentality has become emboldened to treat law-enforcement with disrespect by the politicians who run some of the great cities of our country. And it is completely incredulous how the main stream media selectively reports on our police. What used to be news is now nothing but tabloid TV. What used to be journalists are now propagandists. And apparently their agenda and narratives are politically motivated. Do you wanna defund something? Defund the damn main stream media!

I will continue to pray every day for the safety and well-being of those who put their lives on the line for us on a daily basis. I will continue to remind any officer that they are appreciated and respected and loved for what they do for us in our communities. I will pray that the tragic anniversary of 911 will remind this country who it was that ran into the buildings in the face of eminent danger. That microcosm of time describes the kind of character it takes to wear the blue.

Your proud grandson, Marty

Uncle Marty, You were never forgotten by my dad, your brother Charles or Charlie as most folks called him. He spoke of you often and never got over your loss. Now he is with you and Grandma, Grandpa, Uncles Bobbie, Georgie, Howie and Aunt Helen, also your brothers and sisters that died during the flu epidemic of 1918. My dad always taught us to respect the officers of the Law and I always have. I have also taught my children and grandchildren to be respectful as well. Thank you for your service and sacrifice and let the family know I will be glad to see them when I get to heaven although I am in no rush..... May you rest in God's eternal peace through Christ Jesus, Amen!

To fully appreciate the heroes of the present, we must recognize our heroes of the past. Your heroism and service is honored today, the 75th anniversary year of your death. I am priviliged to leave a tribute to you. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered. Rest In Peace.

Grandad,

I never got to meet you, however, you have had such an impact on my life. Today I will photograph the Police Memorial Ceremony here in Albany. I know that you will be with me just the way you were with me when I crossed the finishing line of the NYC Marathon, that I ran in your memory.

Love your Grandson,
