Hero’s honor long overdue

On Dec. 22, 1927, NYPD Lt. Charles Kemmer was shot and killed as he attempted to interrupt a robbery at a restaurant in Ridgewood.

The city gave him long overdue honors on Wednesday, Oct. 11, dedicating the corner at 70th Avenue and Cypress Hill Street in his honor 96 years later.

Those in attendance included members of Kemmer’s family, representatives of the 104th Precinct, the Juniper Park Civic Association, the Newtown Historical Society, Councilman Bob Holden, the Lieutenants Benevolent Association and NYPD Patrol Borough Queens North.

I said a little prayer today for Lieutenant Kemmer and his family. He may be gone but never forgotten. He will always be a New York HERO.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 84th anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered. Even while wounded, you were still able to perform your duties which enabled the department to apprehend your killers.

Rest In Peace
