Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Police Officer G. A. "Bud" Jackson

It’s sad and troubling that nobody was ever convicted for these heinous murders, especially given what was referenced in the previous reflection. Mr. Lloyd Jackson, I hope you and your loved ones take some small comfort in knowing that your great uncle died a hero, and while his killers may have never been convicted, they surely faced a much higher justice at a later time in a different place. Rest in peace always knowing that no passage of time can ever erase your service and sacrifice.

Sadly, no one was ever sentenced for the murders of officers Jackson and Dotson. After two trials both ended in hung-juries. An eyewitness, a black man, identified one of the men as the man who ran by his house. Bloodhounds were brought in from Nashville and tracked the man to his home where a recently cleaned gun was on a dresser. To show the sign of the times then, one juror said "I ain't never gonna convict a white man on the testimony of a dog and a n_ _ _ _ _!
