I remember the first time I heard the Beatles was at your house, and later you gave me your 45 of George Harrison singing "My Sweet Lord" - I still have it, and I always remember who gave it to me.

It's been many years, and I was so young when you left us. But I still remember you and your laugh, and your booming voice while all of us kids were outside playing. And the UFO stories! Sean told those stories very well, I have a feeling he learned that from you.

I read Tim's note to you and started to cry - we had such a magical childhood, always felt safe with you in our neighborhood.

I didn't fully understand your death back then, but now I understand. Thank you for always making me feel safe, and doing the same for the entire city. You are not forgotten, especially not by my 11 year old self.

To fully appreciate the heroes of the present, we must recognize our heroes of the past. Your heroism and service is honored today, the 38th anniversary year of your death. I am priviliged to leave a tribute to you. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered. Rest In Peace.

Patrolman Ives - Three weeks ago, I stood in the State Assembly chambers when your name was one of almost 250 read off during a motion regarding next month's Police Memorial Week. You are not forgotten.

This coming May 21st, I will stand at the Pikes Peak region peace officers memorial, give pause, and think of you and the rest who have made this place safer, at the cost of your own lives.

Thank you for you service to the people of Colorado Springs and the state of Colorado. May God grant you eternal rest and may His perpetual light shine upon you.

Your sons are a reflection of the man you are. They are both amazing police officers and uphold the best that the badge has to offer. You would be very proud of them.

Dennis,
I just wanted to thak you for your wonderful service to the people of Colorado Springs and the Pikes Peak Region. We all had the honor of listening to your sons at the Police Officer Memorial this morning. I think that it shows what a great Father you were as well.

"The Badge"

He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.

He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.

Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.

He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.

His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.

He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.

And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.

But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.

Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.

Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.

So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.

In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.

Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

Hi Dad,

Just wanted you to know I have been thinking about you. I saw Mike this weekend and we talked about you, as we usually do. He is doing very well out in Las Vegas, you would be proud of him. He has also kept in touch over the years to keep the family together.

I have recently lost a couple of friends and am coming up on the anniversary's of their deaths. You need to keep an eye out on them, they're both trouble makers. You have been there a while and can show them the ropes.

I'm still on the job and appreciate you looking out for me.

I miss and love you

I know you are proud of the work carried on in your name. The name of "Ives" still wears the badge and honors you each day. They are good men, and I am proud to serve with them.

I proudly chose this life of mine
To wear a badge upon my chest
As a member of this thin blue line
To serve among our nation’s best

I’ve walked through blood and snow and heat
Helped put bodies in a sack
And fought with bandits on my beat
For those who can’t fight back

I’ve missed holidays and little league games
To guard the cities here on earth
Offered mine for those without a name
Because that’s what freedom’s worth

I’ve stood tall and straight in a sea of blue
While a flag draped coffin went by
Seen so many tears, and shed mine, too
As I’ve saluted a final goodbye

Yet for no special treatment will I pray
Until my final shift is done
When dispatched on that final day
To meet God’s only Son

I ask, Dear Lord, oh hear my plea
As your strength keeps me from harm
When I’m delivered unto Thee
Let it be in St. Michael’s Arms
