Reflections for Deputy Sheriff Tim Hudson

Tim Hudson was my Paw paw. I was 7 when we lost him, and had only met him when I was 3. I have fond memories of those few short years with my Paw paw. My dad who has now passed carried his memory his entire life and often told us stories about his dad. I continue to tell those stories as well as my memories with my children. Tim Hudson will no doubt, live in memories for many more generations to come. He was a man that has now taught generations about love and acceptance and how family comes in so many different forms. My dad and his sister were adopted, this love and acceptance lead to my dad’s love and acceptance of me, and I could t have hand picked a better dad. I owe that to Tim Hudson. My dad taught me about true, unconditional love, acceptance, and to be a non judgmental and non violent human. I owe the person that I have become to these men. Two men, lost entirely too soon, taught me so very much.

I was just a kid when Deputy Hudson was killed. I remember seeing this guy brought into jail and he had killed one of our Deputies. It was something I will never forget how much bravery it took for this Deputy to chase down these escaped men shooting at him but he Deputy Hudson never waivered. I've been in Law Enforcement for 20yrs and Deputy Hudson you played a part in that calling for me. Thank you for your service.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 22nd anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer. He was also your fellow marine so I bid you semper fidelis.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered. I pray for the solace of all those who love and remember you for I know both the pain and pride are forever. Gwynn, I am releived that the execution brought you finality in the legal senses. Although one of my son's murderers received death penalty, the average wait in California is 22 years so I know even if the death penalty stays the law here, I will not be here to see it meted out. But I know that I will have spent my remaining years fighting to keep both of my son's killers' sentence upheld and carried out.

Rest In Peace, Deputy Hudson.

"The Badge"

He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.

He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.

Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.

He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.

His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.

He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.

And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.

But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.

Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.

Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.

So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.

In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.

Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

I remember Tim Hudson from when I was about 14 or 15. My Aunt Louis was his sister. That was more than 35 years, but I remember him to be a kind and decent man. It was very hard on my aunt and uncle when Tim was murdered.
It's a shame it took so long for justice to be served, but I'm thankful the scumbag who shot him will rot in hell for eternity.
God bless his family and the many people whose life he touched.

Thank You Gwen ,for your note on my sons page. I'm profoundly sorry for your loss, and the time it took to see justice served. We've probably passed each other many times, one of our other sons lives in your town and we are very near there. Our sons murderer was sectenced to 35 years on a plea bargain, not enough, but then nothing will bring Greg back.It saddens me to know you grew up without a father, our grandson is growing up without his also. Such ridiculous loss. But there are still good people in this world Men and women who continue to devote their
lives for their communities and country.
God Bless you in your continuing healing process.
I will think of you and your Father with a smile and a prayer.

Deputy Hudson,
Today is the nineteenth anniversary since you were called home. I read that justice was served in May 2007, and am grateful that justice still prevails. My thoughts are with your family and friends as they remember the legacy of honor and true committment you left behind. Thank you for your uncommon courage.

Justice is not always swift, but it is sure.

For some, it happens here on Earth, for others, after they leave this life.

And in some cases, it happens in both places.

God Bless Deputy Sheriff Tim Hudson's daughter, friends and fellow officers.

I witnessed the execution of Charles Edward SMith yesterday in Huntsville. I want to thank everyone involved for making a tragic situation more bearable for my family. We cannot express the gratitude that we feel for so many officers and civilians and the many agencies that helped me throught this. I thought they did not make men like my Dad anymore but after my experience @TDC yesterday, I now realize that there are still good people out there that care about justice. Some of these folks did not even know my Dad and many of the young officers that were there at the prison renewed my faith that in Texas it may take awhile but if you come to Texas and kill one of our officers under any circumstances you WILL pay the ulimate price. Thank you all and God Bless.
