My husband and I crossed the Cecil Hoffman Bridge on this, the 50th anniversary of his tragic death. Our sympathy to his family and friends. We honor the memories of Patrolman Hoffman and all who have fallen. We appreciate those who protect and serve.

I wonder what the names on I-40 represent. I knew the relation for Sen. Ervin in Burke County, but I just didn't know about Patrolman Hoffman. I am grateful you have explained it here, so I can share in the honor.

I just read how Tpr. Hoffman struggled to become a member of the Finest Law Enforcement Agency in the USA.The North Carolina Highway Patrol. And how he lost his life, and now he will be Honored with a bridge on I 40 that crosses the Iredell County line will bear his name!!

Your heroism and service is honored today, the forty-first anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service to my home state and the birthplace of my son. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.
Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered.
