Reflections for Sergeant Samuel Hewitt

I would have loved to know you. You were gone before I was born, but you son, Edward, was my uncle. Edward has been gone many years now, but he was a kind, gentle, and intelligent man. I never had the opportunity to gain from your knowledge. Since recently losing a member from my former department, I realize the huge sense of loss to all around you. Rest in peace...great uncle Sam.

I was only a few months old when you were killed. You were my mother's, Jean Josephine Hewitt, father. Both my brother and I always wished that we had a chance to get to know you.

Whenever I am in Philadelphia, I try to stop at the police memorial plaque at city hall to read your name.

Your heroism and service is honored today as we approach the 62nd anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service.

My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer. He was shot twice when ambushed on April 23rd when he was on a foot pursuit of two bank robbers, 58 years after you were killed.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered.

Rest In Peace.

If there are any family members still with us , please although it's many many years late, I am so sorry for your loss. And I know your loved one remains alive in your hearts. And to this day is watching over His loved ones.. May God Bless, Carolyn Moore, Asheville, North Carolina
