It's hard to put in words what a great guy Herman was. My memories of him are as vivid today as when they happened. He was my 1st partner right out of the academy and I couldn't have asked for better. He truely was my Brother in Green!!!!!

Lord, when it’s time to go inside,
That place of steel and stone.
I pray that you will keep me safe,
So I won’t walk alone.
Help me to do my duty,
Please watch me on my rounds.
Amongst those perilous places
And slamming steel door sounds.
God, Keep my fellow Officers
Well and free from harm.
Let them know I’ll be there too,
Whenever there’s alarm.
Above all when I walk my beat,
No matter where I roam.
Let me go back whence I came,
To family and home.

Happy Birthday To MY HEROIC Father-In-Law. Today your only grandson said he'd written something for you & placed it next to your Medal Of Valor...&O-by the way-I could read it if I wanted. Yes, I did!
Your eloquent, empathetic, wiser than any 11yr. old I know grandson, who struggles with Asperger's&we say it's a gift he's been given&we say talk to your Grandpa at night...YES HE, HE put these words to paper to honor you...

Dear Grandpa Lyle-I miss You.I know you were The Best Man because MY Dad is the Best Man&He is an Officer&He became an Officer he said To Honor YOU.
You were THE ULTIMATE HERO.
This poem Is For You on your Birthday.

I wonder is it your blood flowing through my veins?
I've read&Also been told How you never hesitated or wait before an impulse to protect would activate like instinct in your heart & your hero blood. You are my hero. Your hero blood is the ultimate gift & one I'm honored to claim...Because today I sit & tomorrow also I'll wait to see - Is it your blood made of pure heroism beating in my heart, flowing thru my veins? Is this why you are gone? So your hero could be passed on? To beat my heart & flow in my veins & guide me thru a life - a life that stole u from my dad when he was my age? A life that took YOU from me - someday the answer will b clear & you'll show me. I know you'll make sure I'll see.
I Love You Grandpa!
