Reflections for Assistant Marshal Victor Helburg

I'm a volunteer with the Boulder Police Department, in Boulder CO. I also write a history column for the Boulder Camera. I'm working on a story on Boulder County officers killed in the line of duty. Since this is Victor Helburg's 100th-year anniversary, I'd like to feature him and would like to correspond with BJ Collins-Boone and any other family members. I'm looking for more info on Helburg, as well as a photo. If you're willing to correspond with me, please email me at pettem@ earthlink.net. Thank you, Silvia Pettem

I am a grand niece and I, too, grew up hearing about Great Uncle Victor's heroic life and tragic death. He and my Great Grandfather Joseph Charles Helburg traveled together from Alsace, France/Germany (nationality changed throughout it's history due to wars, although, I believe, they claimed to be German) to America and became U.S. citizens. Thanks be to God for the unselfish courage of lawmen and women, and our military, who paid the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom. RIP.

To fully appreciate the heroes of the present, we must recognize our heroes of the past. Your heroism and service is honored today, the 99th anniversary year of your death. I am privileged to leave a tribute to you. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service.

My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered. Rest In Peace

Assistant Marshal Helburg - Two Fridays ago, I stood in the State Assembly chamber, when your name was one of the almost 250 read off during a motion regarding next month's Police Memorial Week. We will, at that time, wear our mourning bands in memory of all who have fallen in service to our communities. Thank you for your service to the people of Louisville and the State of Colorado. May God grant you eternal rest and may His perpetual light shine upon you. Danke Schoen Herr Marshal Helburg.

Uncle Vic,as we knew him,or his memory was my grand uncle. We heard his story for as long as I can remember. I am now 79. I have this picture along with a newspaper article which stated that someone in Mexico had come forward and admitted the killing. He was in his 80's or 90's at the time. I don't think anything came of it because of his age. That's all I know about the case. Some of Victor's descendents may still be around the Louisville- Boulder area.

Though the suspect may never have been apprehended you can be sure that he has stood before God and received judgement. God speed sir.
