Does anyone know if Mike’s wife Susan is still around? I have come across some pictures of Mike and his parents and grandparents that I would like for his family to have.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 34th anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never dimishes respect, and your memory will always be honored and revered. I pray for the solace of all those who love and remember you for I know both the pain and pride are forever. Your family is in my heat's embrace today.

Rest In Peace

I'm so glad I finally found this site. I was 15 yrs old when I met Mike and Susan at the Helping Hands. He was a great man and always full of laughter.. I didn't learn of his passing til a few years later. I remember him playing his sax and his guitar's for us when I had pajama's parties at the house. He was going to be my stepfather, until circumstances changed that.. I married and had a son who is 27yrs old now. And I often think back of the time that I lived there with both of them. I still have pictures of that time. I'm 51 yrs old now and divorced after 32 yrs of marriage. I hope Susan or Some of my school friends see this.. esp. Cheryl Littlejohn.. God Blessed you with a big heart Mike and we all miss you even after all these yrs. Always know you was truly loved.

Mike,
While driving to work this morning, I heard a Marshall Tucker song on the radio and immediately thought of you. When I got to work I realized the date and wanted to tell you that you are still remembered alot. Its hard to believe 32 years have passed by. And its hard to believe that its been 2 years since I left you a reflection. God bless you and keep an eye on your brothers here. (by the way, I never learned to play the banjo like we talked about!)

Mike,
I can't believe it's been 30 years since you left us. I was at Station 2 that morning to pick up my then husband who was a paramedic assigned at that station, and was one of the paramedics on the fire scene. I can't describe the shock I was in when they returned and told me what happened. I think about you every time I hear a Marshall Tucker song, or if I eat gingerbread and applesauce. You guys used to love it when I would bring that to the station. Those were the good old days. I'm now married to a LEO and I have told him the stories about how much fun we all had back then. I know you are up there watching over all of your brothers in blue down here. God Bless You and thanks for all the great memories.

"The Badge"
He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.
He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.
Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.
He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.
His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.
He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.
And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.
But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.
Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.
Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.
So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.
In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.
Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.
