Your heroism and service is honored today, the 89th anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer. I am sure that you are proud that your family members continued your legacy of protecting and serving.

Rest In Peace

DETECTIVE GUNTHER, MANY YEARS HAS PAST SINCE YOU MADE THE ULTIMATE SACRIFICE. BUT YOU ARE NOT FORGOTTEN. A HERO IS NEVER FORGOTTEN. MAY GOD BLESS YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE AND SACRIFICE. YOU HAVE SERVED WELL. MAY YOU REST IN PEACE.

I never met you, but I have been proud to serve as you did. You left behind three loving daughters and a wife. Your youngest daughter Margaret grew up to be the sweetest woman. She always had a strong sense of right and wrong, though she was only a little girl at the time you were taken, I think she always missed you. She instilled in me a strong moral sense and a dedication to serving others. Because of you in a way, I am who and what I am today. Margaret your daughter, was my grandmother. I am proud of my family and in knowing that you, my great-grandfather died in the line of duty, doing what you thought was best. It has been hard getting to know you so many years away from your time. You were the first officer to die in the line of duty in Gary, IN. I know you were a detective and died while investigating a burglary. The burglar was hiding behind the door as you entered the house and shot you in the back. Painfully, he was never found, there has never been justice for you. I hope you are as proud of me as I am of you. I will continue to come to the Police memorial, so at least one person knows who you were and what you died for. Rest in Peace.
