Reflections for Patrolman Thomas J. Glynn

Rest in peace always and know that your service and sacrifice will never, ever be forgotten by your law enforcement brethren.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 38th anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect. You will always be remembered and revered.

I pray for solace for all those that love and miss you for I know the pain and pride are forever. I am sure you are proud that your family continued your legacy of protecting and serving. The reflections left by your family and friends were touching and they are in my heart's embrace.

As my career's end is coming closer, I decided to check and find those who had lost their lives during the year that I was hired. While it's been many years since your passing, I'm sure those you left behind and those whom with you served with distinction have kept you alive in their memories. Thank you for your service and for looking out for us who continue in our chosen profession. Rest in peace Officer Glynn.

Dear Dad,

Yes, I too followed in your footsteps. I have recently completed my 25th year. How time has passed. It seems like yesterday that you gave the ultimate sacrafice. I remember the days following that tragic day. The sadness, confusion, fear & lonliness was overwhelming. However, life does go on. I have three beautiful daughters. Caishlin will be graduating from college in a few short weeks. Sela is 17 years old and a junior in High School. And then there's my littlest angel, Fiona. Fiona is 10 years old. She's a strong willed little girl with a strong desire to live. You see, Fiona wasn't expected to live when she was born. She has a congenital syndrome that has left her severely brain damaged. She is our life though. She has touched many people. After the initial shock of her prognosis, we were able to take life "one day at a time". I know that she has her "guardian angel" watching over her. Please don't let her suffer in any way. Thanks Dad for just being you. I love You, Mo Jo

"The Badge"

He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.

He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.

Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.

He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.

His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.

He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.

And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.

But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.

Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.

Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.

So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.

In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.

Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

Its been 33yrs. since you were called home,I just wanted you and your family to know that your sacrifice has not been forgotten. I still remember that night like it was yesterday...and everytime that I drive by the 8th District I still get a cold chill that runs down my spine. I never really realized just how young you were when you were taken from us, until I got to be this age...I am sorry that it had to be you that night that got that call to go to Hale Park, but I guess that God does not let us choose when it is that he will call us home. Thank You for your years of service, and for showing me the true meaning of the word HONOR.

+Rest In Peace My Brother+

I never dreamed it would be me
My name for all eternity
Recorded here at this hallowed place
Alas, my name, no more my face

"In the line of duty" I hear them say
My family now the price will pay
My folded flag stained with their tears
We only had those few short years

The badge no longer on my chest
I sleep now in eternal rest
My sword I pass to those behind
And pray they keep this thought in mind

I never dreamed it would be me
And with heavy heart and bended knee
I ask for all here from the past
Dear God, let my name be the last

I have 37 year career in Law Enforcement now and I hope we see each other when I pull the pin for good. Mom, Billy, Mike, Loretta, & Barb are with you now- God Bless - Billy

We lost another brother yesterday and it made me think back to the day that your watch ended-
Officer Jim Knapp Cook County Sheriff's Police- E.O.W.
4 Jan.2006
Tom, show him the ropes and make sure he knows that no one will forget him and that his family will be watched over by all his brothers and sisters left behind. Heros never die, they live on in the hearts and minds of all who love them and all the ones they protected. Remind him that Grace is a strong woman and that she will get through this- we will help her through this. Thanks Tom- for EVERYTHING!

Rest in Peace my Friend... You made a big impact on my life in the short time I knew you. If I can be half the officer that you were I will be lucky. Seeing you in that uniform doing the job is what made me choose to put one on, you were larger then life to me at ten years old. Thank you for the impact you made on me, I hope that I never let you down. 3820
