Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Corporal Michael Elliott Webster

Rest in peace and always know that your service and sacrifice will never be forgotten by your law enforcement brethren.

To your widow who left such a beautiful reflection before me, I reiterate to you and your family what I said to your beloved husband, that he will always be remembered. God Bless you all.

Delaware State Police (Retired)

Our daughter just let me know about this site which we had no idea was out there until she accidentally ran across it. This Oct 2nd will be the 25th anniversary of his death. No matter how many years, in some ways, it still feels like yesterday. I have to say I'm moved at each and every reflection you've shared. So very touching. Thank you all.

Most sincerely, Mrs. M.E. Webster

Trooper Webster, I came across your story while looking up Missouri State Highway Patrol on line. It dearly bothers me that the one who took your life only got 7 years. Something more along the lines of a life sentence along with much more serious charges homicide would have been appropriate. I pray for better justice in this world. I send you and your family my deepest of prayers and respect

Mike, I had the privilege of becoming your mother's friend this past weekend. She spoke of you with such love and pride. She raised you to be a very honorable man who served his community as a highway patrolman. You will be forever missed and loved by those that called you beloved, and forever honored by those that respect your service and sacrifice. I pray for solace for all your loved ones, especially your mom.

Looking at your picture, you faced the world with the same smile that your mom has. What a beautiful tribute was left to you in the reflection written by the man you convinced not to take his life. I am sure you saved many lives, and comforted many souls.

Mike was one of the most friendly Highway Patrol officers I had ever met, he visited my family on several occasions at Liberty Village trailer park, always wearing that familiar smile. Even though Mike has been gone 15 years, I still miss seeing him around.

"The Badge"

He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.

He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.

Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.

He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.

His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.

He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.

And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.

But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.

Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.

Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.

So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.

In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.

Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

Web-Dawg, hard to believe it has been 14 years. I still remember like it was yesterday. It was the first time that any officer I worked with lost his life. I miss the midnight runs on the doughnut shop, and your enthusiasm for police work and life. You are not forgotten. Those of us who have been arounf Blue Springs awhile still talk about you.

Officer Webster came to notify me of my wifes death. He was kind, he helped, when I wanted to do something stupid he held me, took my gun away, talked to me, made me relize I had children I had to raise. with out him I may be dead today, my children with out either parent. He made a difference in my life that I will never forget. I owe him everything because without his caring and compasion I would not be here loving my family today. I will never be able to repay the debt I owe to this finest of men on this side of life. I look forward to the day when I shall be able to tell him just how much he did for me and my boys. Corporal Webster you are my greatest Hero!

You are a role model in every since. You and my dad are best firends and I still remember you. I recently decided that i wanna to take the path to becoming a state trooper, and I find out this week if i will be given that prestigious oppurtunity to be a part of what you sacrificed your life for. My dad always said that you were watching over him, and im just here to ask you to do the same for me. You will always be remebered and your legacy will live on forever.

Cpl Webster,

You were killed just a few miles from the house where I grew up. I passed through that intersection of 40 & Woodschapel thousands of times and continue to do so when I go out that way. At the time of your death, was around the same time I decided I wanted to a be trooper, specifically in Missouri. Somehow I landed in Kansas, but I think of you often when I pass through on "Cpl. M.E. Webster Memorial Parkway". God speed, and thank you for your service.

Michael, when were classmates in the MSHP recruit class 56, who would have though back in January, 1984 you would not be here. Tim McGrail another of our class mates, last I heard was a Captain at GHQ. Everytime I'm in Blue Springs, I have to drive on the road that's named in your honor. I still remember the night when it happened. McGrail was a Trooper in Boone County when I was a deputy sheriff. Tim told me. I was mad and I'm still mad. We miss you brother, I carried on until I could no longer carry the torch. Tim is still carrying on for us. God has you now, as you're patrolling the streets of heaven. 10-42 and rest in peace.

I was at St. Peter's Cemetary..where your earthly body lays
Hard to believe it's been ten years
Since the supreme sacrifice you made
There are others like you, Micheal
Who did the same thing too
You all served your communities....
like you all chose to do
I have the utmost respect for your memory
and for what your tried to do
You wanted Missouri a safer place
It didn't matter for what or who
Now others have stepped up and taken your place
Inspired by what you've done
The people will never forget you
No Micheal, Not one.

CONTINUE...TO REST IN PEACE.

I had a chance to meet Trooper Webster on many occasions because he used to transport prisoners to our facility. He was such a quiet person. He was nice to everyone and I was saddened by his death. He was a good man,

Mik, I considered you to be a good friend. I remember the meal breaks me took together while on the late night shift.

There is a sign on a local interstate with a brief reflection of your life, and each time I see it I think of you.
