Reflections for Court Officer Albert Gelb

I am glad to see this low life punk Charles rot in jail where he belongs. The nerve to kill a law enforcement who locked your worthless ass up. You are a thug just like the rest of those low lives you hung around in ozone park. Officer Gelb will always be a hero!

Al your name and the good times we shared as new/young Officer's working at Brooklyn Criminal Court comes up often when a few of us old times left from those days get together. You are remembered as good Officer and man and how proud we were to work beside you. We recall standing at attention as a memorial plaque was raised in your honor in the lobby of 120 Schermerhorn, a sad day for all. I know you are Resting in Peace and if God ever needs an Officer to patrol the halls of Heaven you are the man!

Albie,
What is there to say other than we know you are in a better place and at peace. Not only were you a friend you were family. it's weird how its been over 40 years but the good memories remain like it was yesterday. That morning when the police knocked at the door haunts me always, that day was one of the more difficult times I have had to endure. Calling your parents, going upstate to find Emily...It was that friendship we had that helped me through it all. RIP my friend until we meet again.
Peace

The Gelb family proudly attended the Annual Awards Dinner again this year. So many Court Officers came to speak to me to praise you and to show respect for your sacrifice.
It has been 40 years since you passed. Time flies but our love for you is as strong as it always was.
There is a new Gelb baby boy, Robert. He will know his cousin thru the family.
We love you and miss you EVERY SINGLE DAY.

It was my honor to research newspapers, magazines, online & books to find your Photo. I found this photo in a 1976 New York Times article about your heroic sacrifice. I felt it was necessary to have a photo on this website so that your family & friends can remember you. Rest Easy Hero! Always Remembered!

Hi Albie
Today, your family needs your help. You know all the details and we pray you can make things happen. Move some mountains. We need a Miracle now.
As for myself, I ask you to lead me in the right direction. To provide a path where I see none. And keep me strong in my decisions.

We pray for your guidance and miss you every single day.

34 years ago today so many lives were changed. i still can't believe it. you have left a legacy in this family that i know you are watching from above. one is a fireman and first responder, one has dreams of being a court officer in your footsteps. one has set her goals on being an oncologist. as we mourn another year you're gone, we are learning to celebrate your life and make you as proud of who we are, as you were to us. love and miss you always alby. r.i.p.

I am relieved for Albert's mother and sister. I only wish that this had "ended" in his father's lifetime. They all died their first death that morning! It has been a long slow climb for justice with heartache that is impossible to comprehend unless you have been through such a death yourself. Thank God there are few families in this world that have.
I am a Gelb and stand taller because of the pride Albert has brought to the name.
