Reflections for Trooper Dennis Lavelle Lund
My thoughts and deepest sympathy go out to the family of Trooper Lund. This is the first time I ever looked up the officer whose life was taken by two boys I once knew. It makes me so angry to think of all the lives ruined by their sheer stupidity and cowardice. I am sorry for what they have done and want to say it makes me ashamed to be from the same town. I want to thank Dennis Lund for his service and ulimate sacrifice...who knows how many more innocent people could have been hurt by them if not for this brave and dedicated man.

It seems like only yesterday you were still with us. Life skipped a beat and has never been the same. I know you are still with us as we keep our fun times we had and memories alive.
I have written down everything I know about you so I will never forget you.

I just wanted to write to say that my husband and I were traveling through Utah and saw the cross with your name on it.
I just looked up how you died. What a tragedy. I lost my cousin who was a Law Enforcement Officer. He was severly beaten and shot with his own gun, I know the pain that your family is feeling.
I look up to all police officers would love to be one myself to protect and serve as so many do.
Thank you so much for all that you did and for what all police officers do today to keep us safe. they truly do not get enough credit.
I love you even though I never knew you.

Well I bled all over his uniform ,He did not complain at all''' He was very caring to me ''' I remember thinking that he was to nice to be a policeman'' This was just before he was killed in the summer of 1993'' If there is a heaven I know Dennis Lund is there'' Thank you Officer Dennis Levelle Lund God Bless You'''

Thinking of you and all of your loved ones today. It has been 17 years since you were called away but I know those that love you think of you every day and carry your loving memories in their hearts. Continue to watch over all of your loved ones.

Dee, Our grandson arrived from heaven in July. We know you were with us in the delivery room. We talk of you and think of you everyday. How different our lives should have been. I love you for eternity and am so grateful you are my eternal companion. As you know Jared is following in your footsteps. "If you get there before I do, don't give up on me. Between now and then when I see you again I'll be loving you. LOVE ME

Dee, it has been 16 years since that day. I still wonder what would have happend that day had I been there as planned. We would have probally been goofing off somewhere but then again probally not. When ever I see my kids do "grown up things" marriage, missions military and babys I think to myself, how lucky I have been to be able to see it and be part of it. I know you have been there for yours in sprit. Love you.

Stopped at the San Rafael View Area last week while travelling through the area on business. After spending a few minutes at the cross, made a note to look up Trooper Lund on ODMP. Also saw a couple of Troopers while driving along I-70 and I-15. God bless all Utah Highway Patrol Troopers and all law enforcement.

I had just read of this as I was looking through the list of our officers who died in the line of duty. I am amazed to hear of this one, of how trooper Dennis Lund died. After more than one attempt at his life he kept going....My hat is off to this officer...Amazing job, but very sad for its outcome.

A few weeks ago, my family and I passed through Utah from Colorado, and we passed through a rest stop with Dennis "Dee" Lund's cross in it. I wrote down the name, so I could look him up later.
When I got home, I read his story of the chase and how he died. If I were religious at all, I would have prayed for him, but all I can do is hope for many good things for his family.
I shall never forget his name.
Rest in peace, Trooper Dee.

Deeburger...you will never know how very often I think of you, even though so many years have gone by. The memories I have of you are all happy ones. Your cheerful demeanor, your willingness to help, and the respect you displayed for your dispatchers will never be forgotten. I always looked forward to working with you knowing I could depend on you to be professional and courteous in all of your dealings. You touched many lives and we are all grateful for the short time we were able to spend with you. Until we meet again...

"The Badge"
He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.
He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.
Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.
He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.
His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.
He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.
And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.
But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.
Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.
Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.
So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.
In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.
Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

Dee,
I was talking about you to a really close friend today. It is amazing how many memories come to mind. I still wonder what fate would have brought us had I been there like I was supposed to. I am so proud of by big brother. I wish I was half the man you were.
Love and miss you Dee

My family and I were traveling through your beautiful state last week when we stopped at the rest area where a cross has been placed in your honor. I just want to tell you thank you for your ultimate sacrafice. I can only think of 1 place that would be any more beautiful than where your cross stands and that's where you are now . I said a prayer for your family and friends who were left behind. Until we all have that great awaited reunion in Heaven May God Bless each of them.
