I became a Deputy Sheriff in Utah in the mid 70's and this senseless crime was used many times as training scenarios, and reminders. What a sad day for the Officers, their families and the California Highway Patrol. Rest in Peace brothers.

Officer Frago,
I remember this as it was yesterday, not 43 years ago today! I was to become a LA Deputy Sheriff in 1970, and assigned to the "Wayside Honor Rancho". I drove by J's Coffee Shop 10 times a week and every time felt such remorse and sorrow for what happened to you four Officers.
It's rare when I see a "Chippy", that I don't again think of all of you.
Rest in peace Brothers, I hope we will meet on the other side.

Its been 43 years since these troopers sacrificed their lives in the line of duty which forever changed the way the CHP handled deadly armed confrontations. We will always remember Officers Alleyn, Frago, Gore and Pence in our prayers & thoughts.

Dearest Officer Frago: Just wanted to pause and pay respects to you and your three brother officers who changed law enforcement for good 43 years ago. Because of your loss, cops go home instead of to the morgue because so much has been learned as a result of The Newhall Incident.

Your sacrifice was not in vain. You are appreciated, remembered and loved.

Love,

Your dear however sad, happened at a time that I was just entering into law enforcement. This shaped so many training programs and possibly has saved hundreds of lives in law enforcement. You were truly a Hero and your Death was not in Vain.

Time does not diminish the memories of that terrible night. You and your three brothers will be remembered because cops go home at the end of shift because of you. We are blessed to have had you in our lives wearing blue and gold.

Forty two years later and you are still loved, remembered and appreciated. God bless you!!

God Bless you Walter....It's been 41 years and not a day goes by that I don't think of you and the 3 brave officers that gave their lifes along with you that late night for the citizerns of California. Why this had to happen to 4 young officers in the prome of their lives is hard to explain. I know how you felt that night when the incident went down. You are loved and will always be rememebered by all of the Blue and Gold....Watch over all the brave officers that patrol the highways of California and we will meet someday...Semper Fi CHPY....

I met Ofc. Frago's family the other day. They spoke of this incident. One fallen officer is too many.

I work in law enforcement too, for an Arizona municipal agency.

God Bless!!!

I was a Santa Clarita resident for 35 years. I always respected the CHP and their Officers. I believe his name was Officer Myer, who used to stop me for window tint when I was 17 years old. He told me the story of these four brave Officers in the Newhall shootings and it touched me deeply. I wanted to pay my respects in some way. God bless, Jeff Jaynes Arizona Highway Patrol-Williams, AZ.

I was working graveyard in South Los Angeles when I heard over the CHP radio that one CHP officer had been shot. Then a second radio call stated two CHP officers had been shot. Then a third and then a fourth CHP officer was down.My partner and I were stunned and almost in tears.
We both attended your funeral along with all three brave officers. Each and every time I drive by the area where you so bravely placed yourself in danger I cry. From one CHP officer to another, God Bless all three of you and someday we will all meet and talk of good times wearing the Blue and Gold.

Another year has passed and you are still admired and respectfully remembered in the hearts and minds of so many. My thoughts and prayers are with your loved ones and friends on this anniversary of your EOW. You will never be forgotten.

My father and you were great friends in the academy...he was a few numbers from your badge. I remember hearing great stories about you and dad going out to the bar and celebrating on grad day. I am so sorry for your sacrifice. May you always be remembered. The young CHP officers of today are nothing like you and all the others my father worked with. Somewhere along the way the pride of the CHP has been lost...

The final chapter has now been closed. The remaining scum you battled so bravely was found dead in his prison cell.
You are with God in his kingdom of Heaven and they are writhing in hell. We learned so much from your incident. You and your families gave so much that fateful night and for that, many many many LEO's go home to their loved ones. Keep resting easy Brother. God Bless All

My brother. I have known of your death since it happened. I was also told about it in the academy many years ago. Forgive me for having your memory slip to the back of my mind in recent years, especially after the sacrifice you made. Today I finished a book about your life and your death. I drove to the location where you died and although the place has changed a lot, emotions overcame me. I promise that you and your partners will never ever be forgotten by me again.

Thirty-nine years ago was a Sunday, April 5 too, and the whole world changed because of what happened to you.

Nearly 40 years later, officers are safer because of the "Newhall Incident" and the sacrifice you made. To say "thank you" rings hollow and short, but that is all we can offer for making the supreme sacrifice. Your loss was felt around the world and the law enforcement community was stung by the pain of losing all four of you in one fell swoop. We all vowed it would never happen again. But we keep having multiple officers shot and killed, but still, the traffic stop was revised and individual officers are safer because of the lessons learned. You all were so young and innocent.

We think of you frequently ans still pray for your families and other officers.

Bless all four of you,

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 39th anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered. Rest In Peace.

The lessons of the Newhall incident have probably saved countless lives since then. Unfortunately, no matter how well trained or competent the officers are, every day on the job is a day of peril. Within the last three weeks 4 brave officers from Oakland, CA and 3 brave officers from Pittsburgh, PA have been murdered by thugs wielding AK-47s.
How brave are each of our true American heroes who face danger each day he or she pins on thier badges to police our streets so that our communities may be safeguarded.

I was just a rookie Policeman on Patrol when it was announced via radio of the "Newhall Incident" You four brothers indeed changed Police Work in California and I will never forget that awful day. After the incident there was no longer any seals on shotguns and no more red plastic plugs in the barrel of Police 12 gauge shotguns. Police no longer saved their brass at the range. Police tactics forever changed that day. May you rest in peace, Sir and thank you for your service to the people of the State of California. God Bless!
