Reflections for Deputy Sheriff Jack Fennell

Rest in peace always knowing that your service and sacrifice will never, ever be forgotten by your law enforcement brethren.

I am the great niece of “Uncle Jack” as my mom would fondly remember calling him. My mother was only 4 years old when he passed. She remembered vividly going to visit him in the hospital with her parents. Her dad George was Jack's brother. She said that he always offered her up a stick of bubble gum that was in his nightstand next to his bed.

My mother has since passed, but my aunt lives with me (his other niece). We remember our fallen in this house and we have always displayed a framed picture of Uncle Jack wearing his Sheriff's uniform and standing proudly in front of his police vehicle.

Imagine my surprise when a few years back I received a call out of the blue from the Ontario Police Department asking me if I knew of a Jack Fennell. I of course said, yes and the nice officer proceeded to ask me for permission to name their new K9 dog Fennell, in honor of Jack. That call, about an uncle that I never knew, left me in tears, but also appreciative.

I then thanked the officer and said that I was surprised that they remembered something that happened so long ago. His response, “We never forget!”.

We will never forget you either Jack. RIP

To fully appreciate the heroes of the present, we must recognize our heroes of the past. Your heroism and service is honored today, the 62nd anniversary year of your death. I am priviliged to be among the first to leave a tribute to you. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered. Rest In Peace.

I said a little prayer today for Deputy Sheriff Fennell and his family. He may be gone but never forgotten. He will always be a New York HERO.

My biggest sympathy goes out to Dep. Fennell and to all slain law enforcement officers in the nation. My brother is a officer in the RPD and i think about him and the job he's doing everyday. It takes the biggest heart to put your life at risk for those who you do not know. God bless
